People's dress in public - Warning a rant

We had one of our female directors come in yesterday in one heck of any outfit. Recently we all received new employee handbooks with appearance standards that we were supposed to follow. Included were no belly baring shirts, low cut jeans etc. even when we were on our own time and coming to pick up our checks.

The director is 7 months pregnant and she was wearing a pair of gaucho pants that were below her belly, a see through shirt that did not cover her belly and a black bra visible through the shirt.

It's hard to enforce the rules with the employees when upper management won't even follow their own rules. I don't have a problem with a pregnant woman showing her belly, but for God's sake, dress appropriately when in a business situation.

Well i guess, KEEP ON VENTING.

Maybe they like there stomach "Flapping out". Maybe they want attention. Maybe its a hot day.

Why try to figure out? Are you happy with you're body?

Yep but I see no reason to show it to anyone than my husband or myself!

Ah yes the poster who is newly registered with only 3 posts and all 3 on this thread and the last with quite the snark on it! :rolleyes1

Fairly happy, or as happy as any woman is. :teeth: Not overweight but I do have flab and, no, I would never show it.

For the past three years I've worked in a large suburban high school and one of my duties is to stand in the halls at change of classes. Beyond the foul language, rude, obnoxious behavior, and PDA (public display of affection) etc. I get to observe the clothing of 14 - 18 year old females.

I truly can't understand the beauty in wearing pants so tight that you can barely walk; your belly hangs over the waist and your cleavage is almost totally exposed showing stretch marks. Add to the image tottering in high heels and overdone eye makeup and you have quite a picture for 30% or more of our girls!

If anyone has any doubt about the growing obesity problem in America just stand next to me for one day and watch the parade of nearly 2000 teenagers!

I do feel sorry for the girls who dress conservatively blending into the woodwork but even most of these wear tops four sizes too small.

After a particularly rough day of trying to enforce our dress code (asking those improperly dressed to put on a jacket etc.) I turned to a colleague and jokingly said " I have just one word for most of these girls: underwire!"

These guys have to put up with so much fashion-caused temptation I am amazed at their self-control in the halls!

I'll get off my soapbox now. Thanks for listening!

Hardly a day goes by that I don't think to myself "Why on earth do they make things like that in that size???" (And it's my size I'm talking about so no insult to anyone.) Seriously though, when you get to a certain size, tight spandex and cropped tops should just not be available.

Well, Ralph Loren is a little too expensive for me. :)

Me too but his clothes are cut perfectly for me. I buy them on sale all the time at Macy's and Dillards. I've paid as little as $16 for a RL skirt at Dillards! Just check out those sale racks.

To all my good friends here on the DIS - just a thought...

If you are "spilling out of and over your pants/shorts or skirts - YOU SHOULDN'T BE WEARING TOPS THAT DON'T COVER IT UP!!!!! AND another thought - MAYBE YOUR BOTTOMS ARE TOO SMALL!

I got an eyeful of "spillage" tonight...blech...

I know just how you feel. Whenever we see one of "those" people, we just look at each other and say, "some people shouldn't be allowed to dress themself". :sad2: :sad2:

I truly don’t understand why some girls do the “muffin topping” thing. I myself have an ample amount of belly fat, but I cover it up. As a kid growing up a bit chubby, my mom taught me early on that some trends didn’t look good for my body type. Plus, too tight clothes make even the thinnest people look fatter. FWIW, even during the all-too-brief period when I was a size 4 :teeth: , I never let things hang out.

For me, my body is an automatic muffin top because of the baby. Even wearing, uh, nothing, I have a muffin top!! The only pant option that would "cover" my muffin sides would be total "Mom Jeans." So I wear looser mid-rises and longer shirts, and now I'm finally losing the baby weight, and hopefully the muffin top it came with! But it's hard finding shirts that are long enough but not too huge on the rest of me. I've been watching "What Not to Wear" (being a SAHM has its benefits ;) ) and taking notes, though. :thumbsup2
