DFi went to the doctor yesterday for his RLS - it's gotten to the point where I'm not sleeping because he's doing the floppy fish all night long. Well, the doctor said to him "Don't laugh, but I'm going to tell you something that will help you". Apparently there was a study done (and written up in the American Journal of Medicine) for people who suffer from RLS - if you sleep with a bar of soap (any soap will do except Dove or Dial) between your bedsheets, your symptoms will go away.

Hmm...I couldn't help but laugh my butt off when DFi told me, I even went so far as to say it was time to find a new doctor. But.....last night he tried it (after much kicking and tossing) and sure enough, it worked! He had the best night sleep he'd had in a looooooong time! We're not sure if it was all in his head, but the important thing is it helped, it's inexpensive, and he's not on medication for it!

Today he turned to me and said "I guess this is one for the DisBoards, huh". :lmao:

Just wanted to share that interesting bit of info.

Did he give any reason WHY that would work?? I have a problem with RLS, but of course the only soap we have in the house is Dove.. and why is Dove not good?

Jill

No idea why it works. Google "soap and RLS" and a number of things pop up. I was a non-believer, but honestly, it seems to be legit!

And I have no idea why no Dove or Dial. :confused3

My DH has mild RLS. I think if I told him this he'd tell me I was looney!

You could test it without telling him. Then let us know if it works.

That's very interesting though. Regardless, if it's in the head or not, as long as it works!! :thumbsup2

I have RLS and at this point am willing to try almost anything. I'm sure if I put a bar of soap in the bed with us and tell DH that I read about it on the dis boards, he is going to :rotfl2: :lmao: ! So where can I hide that bar of soap??? Problem is we don't even use bar soap so now I have to go to the store and buy some!!!!! If it works though, who cares???

Put the soap under your fitted sheet down by your feet. I didn't even notice it in bed last night. And I must say, it freshened up the sheets a little bit :rotfl:

The doctor who writes a colum in our local newspaper swears by this. People are always writting to him telling him it really works.

And I just paid all this money for a Sleep Numbers bed.

Thank you thank you thank you!! My husband kicks all night long. I don't know how he gets any rest, but he snores right through it!

Strange thing is, the ONLY soap he'll use is Dove! I'll be running to the store tomorrow for some other type of soap.

I had the worse case of RLS Thursday, it even lasted well into the daytime.

I've read about and tried the bar of soap technique, didn't work for me and it wasn't Dove or Dial, it was Lever 2000.

A prescription med called Requip works wonders for a co-worker. If my RLS keeps up, I'm going to have to wave the white flag and go to the doctors for some Requip myself.

I already take Mirapex and iron supplements for my terrible RLS. I read about the soap therapy in the paper the other day. The person who wrote in said they used Dove and it worked great, but Ivory is recommended.

I really have to try it.

:rotfl2: :lmao: I have to try that, I have RLS so bad, it wakes me up and I cannot go back to sleep because as soon as I lay down my feet start twitching and kicking and the feeling sensation I get drives me nuts.
