People who wear clothes that are just too small...

I am going shopping next week... I am HOPING for some decent clothes. I too am in the inbetween sizes now. Kinda scaring me

My kids may have their own money, but they're not allowed to buy what they want unless I approve of it. Since it's their money, should I allow them to get a shirt with questionable language on it? Same should go for questionable size, length, etc.

I know it's a "pick your battles" kind of thing, but I'm sorry - at age 13, sending my child out in clothes that aren't the correct size for them is a battle I'd fight, ESPECIALLY since kids at school are cruel and will point out the rolls, bulges, etc.

I'm nodding and muttering "yeah, oh yeah" to so much of what I've read here. Clothes shopping got so bad for me that the last time I was in a mall, I got angry, left everything in a fitting room and walked out! I just couldn't talk myself into DELIBERATELY looking like a fool! First off, the clothes are made so cheaply but the price tags sure don't reflect it. Then, I've got a choice to make......do I dress like my daughter or my mom? To dress like my daughter I'll look like a floozie on the make.....to dress like my mom will only depress me and make me feel creepy. What to do, what to do??? Well, I've got to figure out something pretty fast. DH actually TOLD ME TO GO BUY SOME NEW CLOTHES before our May vacation. Great, but WHERE?????

I hear you. . .but short of telling them they are too plump for the tee shirts/jeans marketed to that age group is a tough sell. I always get the retort with tears: "So, you're telling me I'm fat?" No, that's not what I'm saying--what I'm saying is your body type isn't conducive to the style. Then again, try and find clothes that are an appropriate style. Heck, as an adult I can't find things.

Thankfully the school does have restrictions on what they can and cannot wear--we won't let our daughter go out showing her belly, etc., but the clothes with all of that spandex just clings OR it rides up because it's too short from shoulder to waist. It's quite the conundrum. I do worry what her peers think of the way she looks and I know she'd look so much better in styles other than those for teens. I have put my foot down to certain things and I am glad that she's pretty modest really. If I could just get her to realize that just because a material is "stretch" it doesn't mean you should pour yourself into it. (Primarily speaking of jeans here.)

Maybe get your daughter to think it's cool to go against the grain. I'm sure there are resources to teach young girls how the media airbrushes women and how tv women and people like britney spears are not real. You know the sort of stuff I mean. Maybe if you can get her to see that the whole fashion industry is using teens like her she'll become angry at them, and what ridiculous expectations can do to teen girls. Perhaps even convince some of her friends to stop dressing that way.

It's certainly possible.
