You got it! We have all but cut DH's family out of our lives. It wasn't easy - the guilt & all. But are lives are so much more peaceful now. They still lie and gossip about us. And it's a small town. However, those who know us know better & those who don't, don't matter.

my dh and I are in a profession where relatives want to use our "services" for free - so the only time we hear from them is when they need something in that arena. I'll never forget one time dh's cousin called on dh's bday - dh thought he was calling to wish him a happy bday - nope, no mention of that, had a question instead. needless to say when I get messages from relatives to call them back, I wait awhile - usually wait long enough that by the time I call back, they resolved it - but I still look like the good guy - the "oh, I wish I could have helped you" from me!

I wasn't expecting many, if any, responses to my vent, I just had to see it in writing. You guys have made me laugh! It's not anyone in my family though. I will say this, karma does exist.

Well, living in Florida poses a lot of examples of this. I LOVE the phone calls from the cousins that hardly noticed me when I lived near them, but now think nothing of calling to drop all kinds of hints

"on where do you think the best place for us to stay would be?"

Needless to say, I have a few hotel phone numbers memorized!
