People who think once is enough to wdw???

I think Disney is one of those things like motorcycle riding. You either love it or you don't. I live in Southern NJ and the folks here go to the "Shore" every year. Paying $1,000 of dollars to stay at a beach resort like Ocean city, wildwood and Cape May. I could never understand that (especially since I think the water is the dirtest around but I'm from the caribbean with crystal blue water).
Myself and my kids could go every year. My dh could take it or leave it, so we switch up. Pretty much you have to ignore those folks. Nothing you can say will sway them.

It definitely goes according to what floats a persons boat. We could not do without Disney each year-I get very cranky in between trips.

You have me laughing here eliza61-I don't know why the bennys come down the shore either-I've lived my whole life here and you couldn't pay me enough to swim in this water. To each his own, right? :rotfl:

Ugh! I hope that day never comes with my kids! Then again, I was the child who always went with her parents-even into my 20's (they couldn't shake me if they tried)!

I agree...that darn tax man can make or break a trip!

my DD-17 says she will "ALWAYS" go to WDW with us.
I'll take it :cool1:

My husband's family started going on a family ski trip when he was a kid. He is the oldest of 6 kids and the first to marry and have kids. We continued participating in this tradition with our kids. Personally, I hate the family ski trip. His family drives me nuts (but I really love them) after 5 days. My husband and the kids LOVE going. Dh's brother got married a few years ago and had a daughter (almost 2 now). Now there are 14 of us that go every single year.
Anyway, my SIL is like, "Why are you going to Disney again? You just went last year." I would think she would understand why. For the same reasons we continue to go skiing as a family every year.
We are blessed with 3 weeks of vacation every year. So, my dh and I take a mission trip (China this year) or a vacation just the 2 of us, we go to Disney, and we go skiing. It works for our family. And I don't have to explain how we pay for it or why we do it.

The first time I took my DW to Orlando, she warned me that she hated O-Town. Apparently every time her family went, it was a big complaint fest. After our trip, she couldn't figure out why everyone wasn't rude and why she had a good time. Today, she absolutely loves WDW/Orlando. We even got my MIL to buy an annual pass this year (of course it was to take her grandson anytime). We like to travel to all places both in the US and abroad, but always find time to go to WDW. It wouldn't surprise me if we eventually relocate there in a few years. BUT, in the office I am known as the Disney guru and even have some clients call me for WDW tips and advice. I am lucky in that most of my immediate coworkers are Disney fans also. I think most people understand it is a great place to take the kids so I hardly get any flak. So far, my DS who is almost 6 y.o. loves it but as he has gotten older, we have evolved from MK to AK to Epcot to the waterparks as our favorite WDW venues. The magic number for him is 48 inches. Once he reaches that milestone, a whole new realm of WDW opens up for him (and us).

Sorry fellow NJers- have to jump in here O/T - as you can see from my post, I live 10 minutes from the start of the beach in NJ - hours from where you are talking about, true - but it's very clean and very nice here. I know why people drive from NYC/Northern NJ to my backyard - it's pretty and clean and close. And LBI is beautiful, too. I know nothing about OC or Wildwood, but I'll take your word for it - just don't bash the whole of the Jersey Shore! It's no Disney cruise, but it's good enough for Jon Bon Jovi and me, too! :)

We are a stones throw from LBI. I just don't see the draw and this is coming from someone who lives a house in from the Atlantic and can see the ocean from her window. Maybe up by you the beaches are nicer? I don't know-when I think of clean and pretty water, I think of stuff I can actually see my hand through like the caribbean waters. I don't think I am bashing NJ to say that either. I've lived here for well over 40 years and I pay a hefty price for the view. I just never understood why the masses flood down the shore, aren't there nice places in NY too?

I lived in Point Pleasant for 20 years until '96 and grew up in Howell/Freehold area prior to that. The best times at the beach were before Mem Day and after Labor Day - no bennies ;) The VERY best times ever were down the Pony and Mrs. J's, street races on Ocean Ave, sleeping on the beach, going to Pat's Diner for breakfast... If you were there, you know

Honestly, those who never go anywhere else but WDW are missing out. There's a whole world out there, a bigger REAL one, beyond "The World". I like WDW every few years. But I wouldn't trade all the other trips - to Europe, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Glacier,Skiing in Aspen, laying on the beach in Hawai'i, camping in New England, my AT hike, and all the others - even the Jersey Shore for WDW ad nauseum. We're going back to WDW this year(first time since 02), but the next big trip is Scotland and St. Andrews. Fore!

I totally agree with you there! (BTW...not a Jenks fan too?) ;)

And you are right about there being more to travel that just doing WDW. That would be a shame to shut yourself off from all the other possibilities out there.

I don't understand why people comment or question so many things that are none of their business--such as vacations, salaries, whether/when you're going to have kids/have more kids/stop having kids, etc.

For us, it's difficult to find a vacation destination where dh can relax and unwind that doesn't bore the kids to tears. Friends of ours recently returned from Hawaii, and when we asked their kids how they liked it, the kids said it was boring, and all they did was sit in the hotel room and watch tv. Obviously, they did more than that, but it was no Disney World.

If you plan it right, it can also be one of the more cost effective family vacations. The above friends paid as much for their HI plane tickets alone than we are paying for our 14 nights of hotel, park tickets and dining this fall.

So there's no contest--WDW here we come, again (and again, and again, and again. . . ).

My DH boss was the same way until he became engaged with a woman who has a 3 yr old daughter. They have been there three times and have become addicted. Now we swap tips. :lmao:

It's a sad but true fact that some people just don't like WDW.

For Example...my older Brother went with us last year...he had a semi-decent time...hates crowds...but will probably never ever want to go back. He's more of a play on the beach kind of guy. While his Wife would go in a heart beat.

As for people who rain on other peoples parade...I think they are jealous. :thumbsup2

We just got back and I am the youngest of 9. I only have one of my siblings who "gets it". I try to ignore everyone that doesn't understand. I don't need them to. Plain and simple.

Thank God for the disboards is all I can say. I truly feel understood here :lmao: :goodvibes :lmao:

We get this all the time from people whom either have never been or went in the 80's once. I think they are all jealous;)

Could be. We took friends of ours that had not been there since the 1991 and they just kept saying that they did not realize Disney had so much to offer. They had no clue about a lot of stuff. Now they come back with us every year. Some folks just will never get hooked though. :sad2:

We haven't even made it to our first trip yet and we're already talking about going next year! :upsidedow

ive only known people from pt pleasant to use the term bennys, and me being your atypical benny i really couldn't tell you why we swim in that water other its cleaner than the water we swim in at home.ie.raritan river or delaware and raritan canal and my favorite the millstone river.

:scared1:

I understand I guess-comparatively, the water is cleaner here than up north. Personally, I'm a pool person unless I'm down in the islands. I have to be able to see through my water. :rotfl:

Regarding the benny term I think others will agree it is used from about mid-Monmouth county and south. I work in Monmouth and the locals use the term quite frequently-ask someone that lives in Belmar, Bradley Beach or Asbury. I'm all the way down by LBI and we still call them that here. My MIL lives well past Atlantic City in Somers Point and they refer to the tourists as bennys too. Some people are pretty vocal about bennys and others are too nice to say anything within earshot of someone they feel is a benny-maybe Pt. Pleasant is just a bit more ballsy in throwing the word around. As I'm sure you already know, the term benny is typically a derrogatory term to decribe those who come "down the shore" from Northern NJ and NY. The origination of the word had no such negative meaning though-it simply was an abbreviation that the train conductors used on the luggage tags of passengers depicting the train stops to the shore (when the train was the main mode of transportation):

(B)ayonne
(E)lizabeth
(N)ewark
(N)ew (Y)ork

My apologies to the OP for getting so far off topic.
