people who still hate Jane Fonda

This topic came up among some of my Facebook friends, mostly old classmates a few months ago. I could not get over the hatred they had for this woman. I did a little research and was surprised to learn that she was 32years old when she went to Viet Nam, from her pictures she looks younger. I do think the photo is something she regrets, but she was against the war and thought this would bring attention, I don't think she thought she would be hated forever. She has apoligized but it will never be enough for some people.

I think sometimes it is easier to hate/blame Jane Fonda than to hate/blame the true villans in that war. If hating Jane Fonda makes life easier for some Vets then I really don't think we'll ever change their minds.

I'm pretty sure that one of my classmates has decided I should be hated too, just because I don't share in their vendetta against Jane Fonda. That's okay because she's not really my friend, just someone I went to high school with over 45 years ago.

I hate that e-mail with all that wrong information about Fonda still makes the rounds. My thought is if you are going to hate someone, hate them for the right reasons, not for all the lies that are told about them.

It was a bad war. A stupid war. An unnecessary war.

Jane was one of those lied about and demonized because of opposition to the war.

Former Dust Off - in country 1/68 - 2/69.

I am sorry - I thought intelligent posters would understand that I do not believe she committed treason. Looks have nothing to do with a person being good or bad.

Thanks for the insult.

What does it say about someone who has to insult the person they are discussing something with to get their point across?

Well both times she apoligized it coincided with a movie for her. Once when protesters were "in the way" and another time right before a movie was released. I tell my kids that apologies are heartfelt, not a quick "sorry" to get something out of it....

I don't like her.

I would think that if we asked the families of those that her actions caused to be harmed and/or killed, I'm thinking they would say they despise her. She could have taken that note with her and was under no obligation to turn it in to the NV. She did that on her own. Her actions should have caused her to be charged as a traitor. She basically had other American's murdered by the NV.

Just because she's pretty on the outside doesn't make her pretty on the insde.

It seems like she had alot of men manipulating her at the time, and she was in the wrong place at the wrong time when that photo was taken.?

How in the world was she just "in the wrong place at the wrong time"? Did she just happen to stumble into Vietnam thinking she was actually on a flight to LA?
I have no problem at all with people who protested the war in the US - that's being a responsible citizen! But if you chose to go into a war zone, you'd better to be ready and willing to accept the responsibility for your actions and be darn sure you understand the potential ramifications of every move you make.
There are far better ways of protesting a war than fraternizing with the enemy.

Jane Fonda will always be Hanoi Jane in my mind. I was still in high school but I remember what she did. She posed on North Vietnamese anti aircraft guns that were used to shoot down American planes. She called American pilots and soldiers war criminals. She went to North Viet Nam and sided with them. Treasonous actions in my mind. She wasn't prosecuted. Life goes on.

I will not change my opinion of her - ever!

The only thing I can say in defense of Hanoi Jane is that she did make a fairly funny campy soft porn movie, 'Barbarella'. Other than that, nah, she is Chu Hoi.

While I don't feel sorry the contempt Jane received for what she did in Vietnam, those stories about POWs she met being executed or tortured because of her are total LIES. Snopes along with some the POWs have debunked that.

I did many of Jane's workout tapes - her workout tapes were the first on the market and created an industry dedicated to health. I will give her props for that.

Many years ago, Stanley and Iris was filmed not far from where I lived and there was a huge controversy about Jane being there. Lots of protesting and newspaper articles about Vietnam vets went on for a few weeks. What I found ironic was that the combat vets who didn't have any love for Jane were more indifferent about her and didn't care to picket Fonda's presence. The hatred, however, was coming from the soldiers who never set foot in Vietnam or family members of still living soldiers.

I get someone not bothering to see a Jane Fonda movie or just ignoring her. But anyone who feels the need to show up at a book signing just to spit on her or demand she be executed for treason forty-five years later, well…it's on them at this point.

She also claimed that those POWs that were scarred and said they were tortured were "hypocrites and liars". She claimed they weren't tortured, starved, or brainwashed. I would think John McCain could tell the other side. She also called them professional killers and criminals. I'm not really sure why she thought she needed to make these comments or who would really care what she thought until she made such derogatory comments about American soldiers--then we care and despise her for it.

McCain is not a Jane Fonda hater. Fonda saw eight selected prisoners who happened to be in somewhat "presentable" condition that day. She did not see McCain and anyone else who was routinely beaten and tortured. She definitely should have known better than to think she was seeing the full story. Still, McCain doesn't rattle on about Fonda the way others do.

My Mom HATES Jane Fonda with a passion! :furious: Her first husband was killed in Vietnam when he was 20. Like others said with their Dads, just saying her name will bring on a traitor to our country speech.

My husband, a 26+ year military man, also despises her. If he sees her on TV . . . oh the expletives fly. :scared1: All based on Hanoi Jane. And he was only a small child during Vietnam.

As for me, I get why people still hate her. Some people cannot forgive her acts against our country and to military men who were DRAFTED and had no choice into joining in the war.

I don't hate her, I just chose to ignore her. I don't like what she did, but I don't hate anyone. (I only hate a university, Ohio State. ;)).

You don't have to "rattle on" to loathe her. A friend of mine who spent almost 7 years as a POW in the Hanoi Hilton has nothing but contempt for her. Does he "rattle on?' Certainly not. He never mentions her; she's not worth his time. He's a far better human being than she ever will be. He has the courage of his convictions, served his country honorably and suffered unimaginable torture for it. She consorted with the enemy and allowed herself to be used as an instrument of their propaganda by denouncing on camera the men being tortured.

I don't believe she's sorry at all. She's sorry it's still an issue that causes her discomfort. That's all.

She's despicable.

I agree.

She is only sorry that it got in the way of her making money.

She's still Hanoi Jane and her only apologies have been insincere, self serving ones. I am not a fan - though honestly I can't imagine I would have been even without her treasonous activities. I don't see anything special about her at all.

I never said he was a hater or that she saw him. What I said was that he was tortured and she said that those that claim to have been tortured were liars.

As to rattling on, I don't know any veterans that "rattle on" about her (they have much more important issues than to think about some self-serving wanna-be 24 hours a day) but if she's brought up, they will have something to say about it.

I don't hate anyone - it hurts the person hating, not the person hated. That said, I do not believe that she is really repentant. I think that Americans died because of her stupidity, and she should feel an overwhelming shame for that. I have seen no sign that she does.
