People That Don't Smile

I went to a party today and there was a woman there who would not smile - no matter what was said, no matter how funny, no matter how nice the comment was - nothing.

I never met someone in my WHOLE LIFE who wouldn't crack a smile at SOMETHING, even if it was only to be polite.

She bugged me.

My brother is like this. He doesn't talk to anyone either. If you say "Hi, how are you"? He says "Oh,hi......" That is about all you ever get out of him. He is 43 so I know it is hopeless at this point. Trust me it bugs me too.

Possibly she had a disease- is it muscular dystrophy?- that makes one lose control of the facial muscles. I had a student with it. Also, some strokes will do that to you.

Oh, what bothers me even more, is when you say "Hi, How are you" and they don't respond.

If it were a man would it have bothered you as much? Curious because we have discussed this topic in one of my class concerning the different social expectation of men and women....most men don't smile alot in social situation and women are expected to or percieved as cold....interesting topic.....

I have a button that says, "Yes, it does hurt when I smile." I'm usually too busy grinning when I wear it to be believable.

Sometimes when you meet mean/grumpy people, its because they have really low self esteem and they are not dealing with their issues correctly. Just feel pity for these people - it has nothing at all to do with you.

If you want to have revenge, just live your life well and keep smiling - don't let them bring you down

I know people who have awful teeth and are embarrassed by them. Maybe that's her deal.
My bil has Parkinson's and is no longer able to do any facial expressions. Though you'd know it if she had PD.
Or maybe she's just a "i'm so much better than everyone here" kind of person that isn't "better than everyone here."

I'm the type of person that'll smile during conversations, but I'm not one to just stand there grinning for no reason.
