People selling their medals on ebay

I for the life of me can't figure out why anyone would want to buy someone's medal. What would they do with it? Display it in their home? Conversation starter piece? That would be a really odd conversation!

I can't get on Ebay at work - do people actually bid on something like this??? I would think you would only want a medal for something that you actually accomplished - to me its worth something different then money - my medal is my reward for all that hard work and proof that I actually can finish something that I set my mind too. I would have a hard time putting a dollar amount on my medal and I also would have a hard time paying for someone elses accomplishment.

TnTsParty~ That's the way I think of it... can't put a price on that dedication and hard work. (And yes, why on earth would you want to buy a medal that you didn't do a race)

The full set of medals (Mickey, Donald and Goofy) is going for 89.01 so far with 13 bids and 2 days left

The goofy only medal is going for $81.00 with 11 bids and 1 day left

that the bidders are Disney memorabilia collectors, rather than people who are going to pretend that they ran...

:confused3

Sometimes people sell their medals so they can buy a framed set from someone like Fond Memories that gives you a set with the frame.

I have seen a 2009 Goofy set go for $225. That would mean an even exchange for a set framed. Not a bad deal. I have 3(soon to be 4) FM framed sets and thought of selling the originals but just can't part with them.

Same here. I guess if there is someone out there who really has to have it, price is no object, good for the seller and buyer. Me, I perhaps need to learn to part with some of my things. Would make my family much happier!

I know someone who "accidentally" ran the Goofy. She registered for the full, but wasn't sure if she'd be able to finish, so she registered for the half instead. She ran the half and then intended to just start the full the next day and see how far she got. Well, she finished! Which is terrific, but because of the way she'd registered, she did not receive a Goofy medal. She is now bidding on a Goofy medal, and I hope she wins. She totally deserves the bling!

Also, some people might want two...one to display at home and one to hang in the office or something? Just a thought. I, too, noticed how many were on there and how much they were going for!

I took DD5 to MK after the full so DH could rest. I wore my Donald medal and a man on the bus to MK offered me $100 for it. He said he was a collector of Donald Duck memorabilia (was wearing Donald shirt, hat and lanyard with Donald pins). He's apparently been trying to buy one for a few years, but no one will sell. We happened to ride the bus back to OKW with him where he was offering another gentleman the same $100 for his Donald medal.

Love the accidental Goofy story!!

I get that and yes, she deserves the bling!!! Just buying one when you can earn one, I don't get.

I have, however, donated a medal. A friend has had a rough battle with cancer and, thanks the inspiration of an organization called www.medals4mettle.org, I wrote him a letter telling him that his race was much more difficult than the Weather Channel 1/2 Marathon and that he was my inspiration for PR'ing it. His wife told me he had a very emotional response and said that the medal and my letter kept him going through a rough stretch of chemo.

This year was my first full and I'm keeping that medal for sure; I couldn't leave it home by itself for a week. I'm planning on doing the Goofy next year. I'll keep the Goofy medal and donate the Donald and Mickey medals; they're very popular at children's hospitals.

I'm not saying this to get congratulated or to draw attention to myself. I am saying that there are good reasons to give up your medal.

That is AWESOME BamaEd and I have heard of that group before. I think that is different though then selling your medal though.

I agree with one who's friend wants a Goofy since she actully did the Goofy just un officially
