Today was my goddaughter's first communion. I am not Catholic and don't ever go to church except for events like this. When I do go, it is always a big deal to me--I'm quite formal about it and well-behaved;) . Anyway, the priest starts with his opening sermon and says specifically, "please do not take any flash pictures while the children are taking their first communion. This is a very sacred event and we would like it to be as special as possible. If you have camcorders that are discreet you are welcome to use them; however, no cameras please." He goes on with his sermon. Right before the kids start communion, he again reminded everyone that they should not take pictures; however, when it was over and the children walked out of the church everyone was welcome to jump up and take pictures. So the little kiddies start going up. Well what seemed to be 100 people jumped out of the pews, ran up to the children and started snapping away like crazy. Those of us that were behaving could see nothing but crazed parents in the aisles and lots of flashes.

Why are people so nuts? No one can obey a darned thing anymore.

It's like that at WDW, too. Anytime they ask for no flash photography during the Country Bear Jamboree or another show, there's always someone pretending they didn't understand and flash away. GRR!:mad:

That is sad. Don't know if people don't listen or just don't care. {{{{HUGS}}}}

DS made his 1st Communion last Sat. The rule was no flash photography while the kids were walking in down the isle or during mass. Well, as soon as they kids walked in *flash**flash**flash* ~ what don't people understand. :rolleyes: I guess its everywhere.

That is terrible -- the Pastor in our church would have stopped everything cold until they sat down. He does that if a baby goes waaaa, totally stops cold until everything is quiet. It turns some people off, but most people like the fact you can actually hear the sermon at church.

Don't these people know that there is film made for situations like these. I have taken many beautiful pictures of my girls in church with high speed film and no flash. I was careful to sit in a spot where I would not have to get up and move to take the pictures. My dh took pictures of each girls' baptism (we baptize once they make a profession of faith not as an infant) using high speed film and I have used it in weddings as well as church programs. There is no need to disturb the service to get these precious photos. I will not photgraph a funeral though.

Because people are self-centered, and even religious ceremonies have turned into competitions about who has the best dress, who's having the biggest party, who hired the best caterer. Drives me crazy.

As far as funerals, I know there are some people whose custom it is to photograph them, but I find it creepy. My SIL photographed my DFIL at his wake. I told her to keep the pictures out of my sight. Shes a nut though, so it didn't really surprise me. The folks who saw her do it said maybe it was something she "needed to do". She, however, never does anything unless it has some sort of positive payback for her, whether it be monetary, attention, or whatever. My guess is that she wanted everyone at the wake to see how "devoted" she was.:rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

Oh that brings back memories. I used to teach 2nd grade in a Catholic School and we sent out numerous letters to the parents asking that they refrain from taking pictures during the ceremony. Our pastor was very strict about it. However, nothing stops these people. Our pastor did not want to stop the Mass to reprimand parents and guests, so we just had to put up with it. I had to walk down the aisle after the children and I swear it was like walking the red carpet at the Academy Awards. Not only were hundreds of flash bulbs going off, but some people would even yell out their child's name so that they could get a good picture.
