I was at a party the other night and it was going great. Everyone was having a good time and for once, there was no drama. (Gotta love college ;) ) So anyway, the night was coming to an end and everyone was getting ready to leave. This guy that was there, I know him fairly well, had been drinking a good amount of alcoholic beverages. As he's getting ready to leave a bunch of his friends were trying to take his keys from him and offering him rides home or to call a taxi for him. But he was getting really loud with everyone and bragging about how he could drive drunk and he didn't care what anyone said about it. Well at that point I got really upset with this kid. I mean, people were offering him rides, etc. but he thought he'd be all big and bad by saying he could drive even though he was clearly drunk. One of my best friends' dad was killed by a drunk driver when she was 12 so I know firsthand what that experience can do to a family. I couldn't believe what a cocky jerk he was being :sad2: So I said something to him about it, that I thought he was acting really immature and if he drove while drunk there could be really awful consequences. Well he told me stop acting like his mother and to mind my own business.

To make a long story short, he drove himself home despite everyone's protests. LUCKILY, he didn't cause any accidents or get in an accident himself. Stuff like this just makes me so angry though! People just don't think before they act, especially when they've been drinking and that's usually when bad things happen :guilty: Anyway, just thought I'd share. I needed to get that off my chest.

Seriously? I'd have been on the phone to 911 so fast with his license plate number, his head would have spun.

Yes, he was dumb. But just letting him do it was even dumber.

you should have called the police! i would have! i would have kept him arguing while dialing 911 and following him out to ge the plate number. you should have never let him leave :sad2: how can he think that way...some people

Well I got so mad that I just left and everyone else said they were going to try to keep him from driving.

So much for that idea. He tried to talk to me today like nothing happened and when I told him why I was still mad he laughed at me. And said that I should learn to "lighten up." :sad2:

Gotta agreee with NMAny, I also have called 911 before. I am guessing if he hurt someone driving you all could have been held liable in some sort of fashion for letting him go.

Dont mean to flame you, but what if he drove around a bit, went to Taco Bell for some food, and somehow he hits you on your way home? Or anyone? Maybe police flashers in his mirror is what he needs to stop his stupidity?

I was seriously so mad at this guy I wasn't even thinking straight. If I had been I would have definitely called the police. But I couldn't believe that this guy was deliberately planning on driving while under the influence of alcohol and it just ticked me off big time. That's one of the reasons I've been upset. I feel like I should have done more to stop him. Even though nothing happened, the what if's are really bothering me. If I'm ever in that situation again I plan on calling the cops right away.

EXACTLY....EXACTLY....OP, you were wrong. I am not one to get up in anyone's "grill" but WHAT IF MY SON, 19yo, GOOD KID WAS COMING HOME FROM THE MOVIES WITH HIS FRIENDS AND WAS HIT AND KILLED BY YOUR FRIEND....AND THEN I FOUND OUT YOU ALL WERE TALKING ABOUT YOUR FRIEND NOT DRIVING HIS CAR PRIOR TO YOUR DRUNK FRIEND LEAVING THE PARTY....AND THEN ALL YOU MATURE ADULTS STILL ALLOWED THIS JERK TO DRIVE....AND NOW MY SON AND HIS FRIENDS ARE ALL DEAD!!!

JUST PONDER THAT.....

I AM SORRY ABOUT SEEMING LIKE I AM SCREAMING AT YOU...because I am and I hate alcohol and driving..............HATE IT!!! :furious:

NEXT TIME CALL 911 no matter if someone is laughing at you. You just may SAVE someones life.

:sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

ok. some of you know that this is a very touchy subject with me, and for chhrists sake why the heck did no one call the cops?

look anyone that thinks they can drive when drunk, needs to be in jail. not just slapped on the wrist, not told off by friends, not chastized by peers. but jail time. lock em up. theres not any way this kid could ever return what he could possibly take away from someone by being stupid. yes stupid, theres no other word for any one that drives when drinking or drunk. yes i do drink. i drink at home, or when ever someone not drinking is driving, or i know i'll be where i am more than an hour per beer i drink. they drunk that hit me kept teling hte cops there was no way she had a rweck, not in crossett, she was in bastrop, ( a town 25 miles south ) she was fine, she was ok to drive herself home, yet she had taken the right half of my face , and in the long run, my customized suburban, my lifes savings, over a year of my life was spent wanting to be able to do simple things,, like drive,, walk around the block alone, take a shower, and she had the nerve to stand up in court and say she shouldnt be responsible for my injuries, because since i was not wearing my seatbelt,(it was broken, i was on my way home to repair it) the judge laughed at her, and even though she is still in jail, she still doesnt think she was wrong.

Okay wow. Thanks for that. I mean, if you had read my second post you would have seen that I've felt EXTREMELY guilty about not doing more to stop him from driving drunk. And if you think that I haven't already thought about a scenario like the one you just posted, you're wrong. I DO feel bad for not stopping him but I was so upset that he was being that way that I wasn't even thinking straight. And I do know what it's like for the family's of the victims because my BEST FRIEND lost her dad to drunk driving. THAT is why I was so upset to begin with and it's exactly why I feel guilty for not doing more. There was no one laughing at me for not calling 911 or anything like that. And for the record, that guy is NOT my friend. I don't associate with people like that.

Sounds like the driver wasn't the only irresponsible one at the party. :rolleyes1

Okay, why do you guys think I am posting this DAYS after this incident happened? It's not because I just felt like sharing. It's because I still feel GUILTY for not stopping this idiot from getting out on the road. Yes, nobody got hurt but they could have and that makes me feel awful. I didn't expect to not be criticised but you all are acting like I have no remorse. I DO feel bad about not calling the cops or 911.

I really do believe you are sorry about this, I do!!! That being said I just wanted to Post a SCENARIO for you and anyone else who might read this Thread and let everyone and anyone who decides to drink and drive JUST EXACTLY WHAT THE CONSEQUENCES MIGHT BE....THEY WOULD BE HORRIBLE.

There are wayyy tooo manyyy LAW ABIDING people out there driving around and finding themselves in horrific accidents with people DRINKING and DRIVING.

JUST READ FROGGY'S POST...that says ENOUGH!!! :grouphug: Froggy all day long.

any one who endangers someone else's life should be punished. YOU endangered lives because YOU did nothing.

I know how horrible the consequences can be :guilty: That's why I still feel bad this happened. I know that I wasn't the only person there who could have done something, it was a big party. But I'm not responsible for them, only for myself. And I know I should have done more to stop him. Not to mention, I can be a really timid person and this guy was really getting in my face and loud when I tried to talk him out of it. I still should have called the cops though.

Thanks. I believe I already covered the fact that I feel extremely guilty about not doing more to stop him.

My DH's best friend was killed Friday morning. He had been drinking and nobody bothered to stop him from driving. We don't know any of the people he was with, but it certainly would have spared a lot of people a lot of grief if SOMEBODY had done something.

I stood by my DH's side on Monday morning after he helped take his BEST friend's casket from the hearse, and I watched them lower that casket into the ground. His friend's mom and dad are nearly dead themselves from grief.

Tell Mr. "Lighten Up" that I said to shove it up his ***. If he continues to drive drunk I hope the only person he kills is himself. :furious:

I don't think we're trying to act like you have no remorse--but personally, I'm hoping that you'll remember this the next time it comes up. I think it's worth the possibility of hurt feelings if you or someone else reading this remembers.

A good friend of mine has been in a wheelchair for the last two years because of a drunk driver. She'll never walk again. It just breaks my heart when someone depends on others to take the initiative to stop someone.

It's not just you--I know that I want everyone who reads this thread to step up to the plate and stop someone from driving drunk.

OP...LIFE'S LESSONS. Life hands us challenges DAILY. Timid or NOT, I think you, yourself LEARNED a very valuable lesson here.
