Pentax general discussion

We'll just miss you - we're there the 4th-7th. Just a short weekend trip to see Billy Dee Williams. :thumbsup2 I expect we'll be done after just a few days of crowds and heat that are far beyond what we're used to!

Golf4food, congrats on the 35mm macro! I haven't heard a bad word about it yet. Looks great!

Daisy14'sDH - I didn't even know there was such a thing as a high-end software bat! :lmao: There's never a shortage of expensive hobbies!

THere are a few that sell in the thousands. Most that are left in my collection are in the $200-$400 range. Its sad that I only have 35 left.... :santa: I figure thats how I'm going to pay for the next 2 vacations seeing as I'm getting too stiff to play anymore.

Since everyone else is posting about their expensive other hobbies...
I'd like to throw in mine. Its expensive, but it has paid for EVERY piece of equipment, so in the end, it hasn't cost us a cent other than gas money and fun.
Now, before I tell you what it is... ask yourself... What hobby can be expensive, and yet pays for itself in money within the first year or two?
The answer..

We metal detect. We get exercise, and we find change, jewelry, and gold. We have found enough change to pay for EVERY SINGLE machine we have, including all the electronic pin-pointers and diggers, and all the batteries. Now gas to get to those parks and schools..... Thats another story.

I'll buck the trend. My other hobby basically costs me about $10 a month and some extra dirty clothes. It is weight lifting. The only thing it costs a lot of is my energy!

And helps to carry around all that camera equipment in the parks. :thumbsup2

We do a lot of walking - something DW and I can do together - and as soon as she finishes PT on her injured shoulder we have EA Active for the Wii that we can also do together to stay in WDW shape. :)

This is my hobby and the best thing is I get paid to be there!!! It helps to finance my hobby habits!!

Sweet pics! I just got back from a Road trip to NC over the weekend. 26 hours of driving in a 60 hour span. Lots of fun, may have even got a few good photos...

I might as well introduce myself as a lurking Pentaxian to these boards.

I come from the UK and we can only afford to go to WDW every two years (next visit due 2011!)

Both my wife and myself use Pentax..
I have a K20 (which replaced my K100D when it got destroyed by a huge splash of water on the Jaws ride in Universal, despite being in a case and down by my legs!)
My wife has just bought a K-x - and yes it is in red!

Between us we only have a few lens:
2 x DA 18-55mm
DA 50-200mm
DA 55 - 300mm
FA 50mm

A lurking Pentaxian? Lol, that makes you sound shy... until you mention your DW has a Red Kx! They make a bold statement! Welcome.

I'm not real great at paying attention to what camera's other people are using at Disney unless they have a brand strap on but last week I definitely noticed a Red K-x being used at DHS. It's a stand out for sure!! :goodvibes

This might sound corny, but I don't know which I like best about my red K-x, the camera or the color. it just looks cool. They also made it in white and black, and if your in Japan they made it in about 100 different combinations. I'm waiting for some of those colored parts to float over seas via ebay.;)

They're going to start offering the other colors in the US soon. Saw a press release not long ago, I think.

But they are not offering the color customizing like in Japan. I think there are going to be 8 colours coming.

Proof that I am not crazy! Well, at least proof that I am not crazy about how great this camera is!!! Everything else, well...
http://www.tipa.com/english/award-details.php?iId=1768&sAward=Best DSLR Entry Level

great camera,
but then the prestigious TIPA organization (Technical Image Press Association) chose the new entry level Canon Rebel T2i (550D) as the best Advanced DSLR. TIPA awarded the new Canon 7D as the best "Expert DSLR". The Nikon D3S won an award for the best professional DSLR. The Olympus EP1 won an award for best Entry Level Camera, Sony won for best All around DSLR. Canon G11 - the best Expert Compact, Casio for best compact, etc. etc.
Casio?

Who cares about those other categories? Something I own actually is the best in a category! Woot woot! If you've purchased as many lemons as I have you'd understand my excitement!

Love seeing the pentaxians here. I am not worthy to post pics yet, but enjoy seeing other people's great shots. I am also in the k100 to K-x upgrade club. Love my stormtrooper! I am somewhat lens limited with only the 18-55, 1.4/50 and the 50-200. I am enjoying the baseball shooting right now.
