I am trying to iron out some details well ahead of time so if anyone can help me with the following questions it will be much appreciated.
Does anyone know how many pennies a penny press book sold at WDW holds? Does it hold any quarters, if so how many?
I am hearing mixed reviews on other sites about using pre 82 pennies or post 82 shiny pennies. Please share experiences..........and if it's best to use pre 82 pennies what to clean them with and how shiny are they supposed to get?
Does it matter what type of quarter to use? regular or states quarters?
Is it 50 cents plus 1 penny for the penny press?
Is it $1 plus 1 quarter for the quarter press?

36 pennies, 6 quarters

we've always used pre 82 pennies (not cleaned, use ones with a good shine on them). results have been very good. (and we have collected every penny on property. Every time we go we need to get some more because they add/change them).

can't comment on quarters

and yes to the costs.

my hubby and i get one ever where we go, i am so glad where not the only ones lol

I was able to find plenty of pre-1982 pennies in the various coin jars and drawers in our house. I can't believe I did it, but I actually tried Brasso on them and it did a great job of making them shine like new. Having said that, I was disappointed in some of the penny machines; the dies in some of them seem worn and they don't make a distinct impression. The quality on the quarter machines was much better. I did fill up a coin book with a couple left over, and that was without really even trying to locate machines. They're everywhere.

We have almost all of them too. :) The ones we haven't gotten yet are at places like the water parks, mini golf, because we haven't gone to them yet. I'm assuming that the machines at these places are inside so that admission is required, is that correct? On the last trip I found out that some of the Disney Quest machines were accesible without admission, so now I'm curious about the others.

lshaffer: We used the pre 82 & soaked them in vinegar, then rinsed them off.

We also collected the quarters (missing 7 due to machines being out of order). We just used any quarter & didn't clean them, and I don't see much difference between the ones pressed on old & new quarters. We did find a few machines that were only 75 cents plus a quarter, but that was rare. Also at least one of the penny machines at DQ was either 75 cents or a dollar instead of the normal 50 cents.

Have fun collecting! We really enjoyed searching for the machines & visiting the resorts.

The minigolf pennies are outside the "gate" so you don't have to pay to get in.

At the water parks, they are inside. At one of the water parks we got the pennies when we had the old length of stay passes. The other one, my DW just told the CMs at the gate that she was there to press pennies. They let her get the pennies. She of course didn't have a bag with a swimsuit, plus the day was sort of cold and rainy. There were less than 10 cars in the lot.

Thanks for the info everyone. I just filled two m&m tubes with quarter quarter penny for my DS10. I didn't look at the penny dates - I chose the shiniest ones we had. Will those after 82 not work as well? I'm out of the penny loop, I guess. Thanks for your help!

Pre 82 pennies are all copper. Newer pennies, when pressed, will have the silver from the middle (can't remember what metal that is) showing in the design - some people don't like that, other think it actually looks better that way, just a matter of preference.

Thank you!

Silly Question  . . . . Do the press machines press Canadian pennies or quarters?

I was just wondering . . . not a problem to grab a roll of American change . . . just curious really?

Cheers!

Thank you everyone! I just put my older pennies in a bowl of vinegar and they look lovely already! I'll bring some of both and we'll see which we prefer. By Friday at this time, I'll know the answer... :sunny:

What age do you think would enjoy this? My DS will be 3 and 6 when we go back. TIA

Please let me know what you think of the old versus the new pennies!!! Have a great time!

What in the world is a penny press?...sounds like something else my husband will give me that "you're quirky, but I love you anyway" chuckle. I already notifed him that I will be standing in line for autographs. He thinks I joined a Disney cult...I haven't been to the world yet.

:thumbsup2 Thank you for all the tips! My DH thinks I am insane with the penny press! We have 2 film holders filled with quarters and pennies for princess: DD5 princess: - we will give her one before we go to Disney and since we are going to be there for Easter, the Easter Bunny will leave her some in the eggs he is hiding in the hotel room!

Here's a recent post that will explain the pressed pennies
