Phew - ten days without an update. Crazy week. Maybe things will slow down again so we can get back to updating more frequently...
Anyway, after a wonderful breakfast at the Grand Floridian Cafe and a morning wandering the Magic Kingdom, we came to the time for our lunch ADR at the Liberty Tree Tavern.
Menu shots start here, four shots total, I believe:

I was still a little full from breakfast and a little hot from walking around in the sun all morning - only to arrive at the LTT and find their lobby AC was out and the computers were down as well. Consequently not much looked good to me on the menu. One of the dangers of making meal plans six months in advance. After we were seated a few minutes after arriving, however, we wound up with a seat right under an AC vent next to a beverage station, and that AC was working more than well and within minutes we were both close to freezing. I ordered a burger more out of default than desire since nothing appealed to me much at the time and the burger was the "safest" choice.
The burger was medium-well as requested, the bacon was nice and crispier than most breakfast bacon we had all weekend, the cheese was nice, and overall it was a pretty good burger. Not amazing, but good. (In fairness I don't know that I would have found anything "amazing" at the time.) The fries were fresh and hot - soft in the middle and just slightly crispy on the outside. By the time the food came out I mostly just wanted to get back out in the hot sun we had just escaped from so that I could thaw out before catching the chills or pneumonia.
I went with:
The Tri-Corner Sandwich (w/ green beans subbed for the fries)
I was more excited for my sandwich than Golf4food was for his burger. The sandwich had great flavor. It wasn't overly spicy, even considering the arugula and horseradish. I thought the flavors all went together well, and it was nice to have on a warm day. The green beans were good, but VERY garlic-y. I happen to be a big fan of garlic and cook with it all the time at home, so I was okay with these. If you are not similarly enamored with garlic, consider yourself warned! The pickle that came with the sandwich was good, too (in case you were wondering).
After we were finished eating and were waiting (and waiting and waiting) for the check, our server brought out this for my birthday:
Surprise Birthday Cupcake! (echo, echo, echo)
We actually decided not to order dessert (due to a combination of me being very bummed about the tragic loss of the awesome strawberry shortcake that used to be on the LTT menu, and it being pretty hot outside which was starting to take a toll on us). We were beyond ready to go, but it was a nice gesture and provided some awesome post-lunch entertainment. As previously mentioned by DH, we were sitting right under an air vent, which caused some technical difficulty with the ceremonial lighting of the Flaming Birthday Dessert. They persevered, though, and were able to get it lit by the end of the birthday song! (Applause) By the time I blew out the candle, we were all laughing pretty hard. It was really great - chocolate with a frosting that was similar to cinnamon roll icing.
They were turning away walk ups at the door due to a combination of the computer system being down and the fact that it was quite crowded - the whole day wound up being pretty darn crowded and was about as busy as we've ever seen the MK outside of one
MVMCP a couple of years ago (we avoid busy seasons on purpose and are never there on the super busy days, but this day was a lot heavier than we expected and was probably close to summer crowd level).
Our server, Hugue, from Haiti, was friendly but went AWOL for a while and we had some difficulty in understanding him through his pretty heavy accent (luckily I had a Haitian roommate in college, which helped a little... even so I gave up on thinking about the fish of the day dish after only being able to understand every other word of his description).
Overall not bad, but not great - probably influenced by first the heat and then the cold. We give it 3.5 penguins:
We did take advantage of one of the best souvenier opportunities in all of WDW - buy the awesome glass mugs they use for drinks at the LTT for only $5 each. We heart them.
