"Penguin Wall" Question...

Hi...

I visited SeaWorld Orlando back in August and immensely enjoyed the Antarctica area. One of the features I liked was the "Penguin Wall" outside the gift shop. You know the wall that has different penguin species carved into it and each carving has a number associated with it? Well, I took pictures of these carvings but I didn't understand what the numbers meant until I got home and realized while looking online that there were "markers" embedded into the ground that further explained the numbers, I'm guessing. My question is this: Does anyone know which penguin species is which on this "Wall"? Any answers would be greatly appreciated as I am getting very close to editing these particular pictures. Thanks in advance!!!

The numbers associated with each of the penguin species corresponded to the same number of gold globes on the ground - when I looked at the penguin wall a few months back, the globes were not there.

In fact, there was a construction wall around the penguin wall this past weekend.

If you have a picture of the penguin wall with the numbers, I could help identify them? I know I can identify king, emperor, gentoo, adelie, and chinstrap, at least. :)

Thank you for your help, Sehsun. I will probably have the pics ready this coming weekend sometime.

I'm sorry, Sehsun. I have been away from my laptop all weekend. I will try to get the pictures posted tomorrow.

I've finally edited the pictures I have of the Penguin Wall carvings. I only have images from 16 of the carvings, though...a few were missing from my collection (User error, most probably). When replying, please indicate the number with the species (like 1. Penguin Name). That would be extremely helpful. Thanks.

Sehsun...with your help and a couple resources I've found online, I think I have identified all the penguins that were featured on the "Wall". Whether I'm correct remains to be seen.

1. Chinstrap (you)
2. Adelie (you)
3. Emperor (you)
4. Macaroni (internet)
5. Fiordland Crested (internet)
6. Snares Crested (internet)
7. Magellanic (you)
8. Northern AND Southern Rockhoppers (internet - there's actually 2 species featured in this pic)
9. Erect-Crested (internet)
10. Gentoo (internet)
11. King (you)
12. Galapagos (internet)
13. African (internet)
14. Humboldt (internet)
15. Little Blue (internet)
16. Royal (internet)

I think that's pretty good, actually (hopefully someone will correct if necessary). I have difficulty distinguishing between the macaroni and the rockhoppers (SeaWorld Orlando has the southern rockhoppers). And I am fairly sure #15 is a Little Blue. Good job doing the research!

Thanks!!! I hope more people see this thread and give input as well, especially on the "crested" species, like the rockhoppers.

This post is overdue, but the construction walls at Antarctica are down now. The penguin wall has been refurbished. Now instead of the penguin key on the ground, it is on the rock work to the right of the penguins. It appears that the numbers have been re-assigned as well (sorry, I didn't think to get a picture of the entire wall).
