Is there any penalty when you cancel a reservation? I need to cancel a reservation for nov 2004 which used all of my 2004 and 2005 points. I have an October use year. Thanx in advance.
NO penalty, but you won't be able to move your 2005 points back to your 2005 UY. Depending on when your UY is, you should be able to bank your 2004 points though, and use those next year.
Are you saying I can bank my 2004 points, but must use my 2005 points before October (my use year) 2005 because I borrowed them and am now cancelling the reservation. Are there any other alternatives?
Once you have borrowed points into a use year, you can't put them back. If Oct is your use year, then I understand you to say that you are using the point you are getting this Oct 2004 for the Nov trip. You then borrowed your 2005 points into 2004. If this is the case, then you will have to use the 2005 points by Sept 30 of 2005. You can bank your Oct 2004 points into 2005 if you want to as long as you do it by the required time which I think for Oct is March. In this case, you will be using your 2005 points first and your 2004 points last. I find it easier to think of it this way. My use year is Sept. In Sept of each year I get points that will last me until the next year. I get points for Sept 2004 in Sept and they will be good until Aug 2005 unless I bank them. If you have no plans to vacation from Oct 2004 until Sept 2005, then you will have points that will expire. You can make reservations for someone else, or try and rent them. You can also deposit them into a trade with II but I know there are rules with this also. You may want to call MS and ask what your best option is.
You don't have to cancel yet. Maybe you could just rent what you have scheduled or a portion. You will have to use, rent or lose the points you borrowed by 30 Sept of this year. You must bank the 2004 points to 2005 by 31 March I believe. Good luck.
October 2003 points -- good 10/1/03-9/30/04
October 2004 points -- good 10/1/04-9/30/05
October 2005 points -- good 10/1/05-9/30/06
You have a trip for November 2004 for which you say you have used two years worth of points. We need to clarify which points were used. Did you already use all your October 2003 points? In that case, you may have booked using October 2004 and borrowing October 2005. Another thing you may have done is to have banked your October 2003 points into November 2004 and used your November 2004 points. This needs to be clarified.
In any case, the points that were either banked or borrowed can't be moved again. The current Use Year points may still be able to be moved.

Dean,
I think you are wrong on this one. If the points are an Oct. use year, doesn't that mean that his 2004 points don't start untill Oct. 1, 2004? That would mean that he has untill the end of March 2005 to bank them. The 2005 points would have to be used by the end of Sept. 2005.

Correct, my mistake. Move the dates to banking and losing to 2005. Thanks for correcting me, I don't want to give inaccurate info, even if it was a brain freeze.
