Favorite Things to Eat at Disney

17. Earl of Sandwich
In March, we finally made a trip to a place where many, many people have gone before: Earl of Sandwich.

Unfortunately, we visited EoS on the last day of our trip, so Franklin hasn’t edited those photos yet. My flowery prose will just have to do.

Let’s set the scene a bit, shall we?

We arrive at EoS and encounter a line that wraps around the restaurant. Uh-oh, is there a sandwich on the planet that’s really worth this?

In a word? Yes.

In two words? Heck Yes!!! :lmao:

I had the ham and swiss, and, no joke, I have had that sandwich pop up in my dreams every now and then. The bread is perfect (crisp crust, soft inside). There was plenty of ham and the cheese was just melted enough. Seriously awesome sandwich.

Franklin had the Original, which is roast beef, cheddar cheese and horseradish sauce. I’ll let him give you his take:

One of the best sandwiches you can buy, not just at Disney, but anywhere.

So, yes, I will go ahead and recommend a trip to Downtown Disney one day for lunch, you won’t regret it.

18. Kona Cafe's Tonga Toast

We will sort of agree with you on this one. Tonga Toast is awesome- my older son Nate loves it. It is way too big and way too sweet for me, but feeding Nate's craving helps me with mine...

My absolute favorite thing to eat in the World is Macadamia Nut pancakes, and they are conveniently found at Kona Cafe, too. :)

17. Earl of Sandwich

This is another place we need to give a second try. Our first visit did not blow us away, but it was due to a series of circumstances beyond the restaurant's control- one boy with stomach issues, too much food on the Deluxe dining plan and a tropical storm that kept us soaked and in a poor mood.

16. Main Street Bakery cookie ice cream sandwich

Looking for a snack at Magic Kingdom? Well look no further than Main Street. Main Street Bakery offers this scrumptious cookie ice cream sandwich. Two freshly baked cookies, wrapped around yummy Disney ice cream. But it’s a huge snack, much too big for one person (so plan to share!).

Franklin offers this assessment of this amazing snack:

Monstrous. Need a knife and fork.

15. Frozen Coke

DSC0887-L.jpg

This one is pretty simple. It’s hot at Disney World about 80 percent of the time, so you’re constantly on the lookout for a refreshing drink. Enter the frozen Coke. It’s perfect for when you want something a bit more fun than your 5,389th Diet Coke of the trip.

One of my favorite ways to enjoy a frozen Coke is at the Lunching Pad in MK with a nice box of Disney popcorn! A perfect pair!

I swear I answered these yesterday at work... I guess my responses are off in the Dis ether somewhere. :rotfl:

See, Kona makes everyone happy?!?!!

Totally agree, you should give EoS another shot. There aren't many inexpensive options at Disney that are this good.

We also loved Earl of Sandwich. It was delicious! :) Good choice!

Super-duper delicious! And, as promised, here are the photos from EoS:

14. Sci-Fi Dine-In and The Plaza hot fudge sundae

DSC6547-L.jpg

DSC0829-L.jpg

When most people think about ice cream at Disney World, it usually comes in two forms: Mickey bar or Dole Whip (don’t worry, we’ll get to those later in the countdown). But there’s another worthy entry in the best ice cream dishes at Disney World. And it is the hot fudge sundae.

The best two I’ve had are at Sci-Fi Dine In (top photo) and The Plaza (bottom photo). The key to any good sundae is the fudge and these two have plenty of it! At this point I can’t decide which sundae is better, maybe I’ll have to try them both again on my upcoming trips to REALLY make the decision. ;)

We last left off with a delicious meal at ‘Ohana, we all came home to start packing, which brings us to... our LAST DAY. Yes, that sad point when you realize you’re being forced to leave The World. But, luckily, we had an evening flight, so we still had time for some Disney fun!

First though, we had to pack up the car, and we seriously had a lot of stuff.

DSC2955-L.jpg

Hey Tanner, are we packed and ready to go?

DSC2953-L.jpg

We sure are, and we better hurry because we’ve got a very special breakfast date.

DSC2958-L.jpg

That’s right, we were going to have breakfast with Mickey and the gang.

Group photo is first!

Tanner was dressed for the occasion.

And he got a special birthday placemat!

DSC2964-L.jpg

We soon had our first visitor. You can almost see the thought bubble over Tanner’s head: “Whoa, you’re tall!”

Next was the star of the show. He was awesome with Tanner!

Next came everyone’s favorite duck. Well, almost everyone’s, Tanner seemed to have forgotten what good friends he and Donald were at DHS.

Next came my homegirl, Minnie! Tanner gave her his signature “I love you” nose grab!

Two Minnies! Though only one has a super-cute apron.

Tanner, are you having a fun morning?

DSC3016-L.jpg

I guess a fit of giggles means yes!

What were we here for? Oh, right, breakfast...

Minnie hadn’t gotten enough Tanner time, so she came back over to sing the Celebration song with him.

We had one more visitor. Time for a little more peekaboo!

You’ll notice Franklin isn’t in any of the photos. I didn’t realize this until he put the photos up online today. I’m trying to figure out a way to add Chef Mickey’s to one of our other trips to maybe get some photos of Franklin with the gang.

I know CM can sometimes get just okay reviews, mainly because the buffet can get messy. But with our early ADR time, we didn't encounter that at all. The food was great and the buffets were clean.

Breakfast was so much fun! And it was the perfect start to our last Disney day. We're headed to Magic Kingdom, so stay tuned!

Just finished reading your TR and am loved every minute! You have me sold on staying at Windsor Hills with our large family (without even realizing it, my DH and I fell in love with the exact same town home!) I can't wait to read your October TR, we are going at the same time in 2013 and doing F&W and MNSSHP. I am sure you will have some great tips, must-dos.

Awesome pictures! Tanner is just too cute for words!

He is so cute. The crazy thing is he looks so different now than he did at Disney and that was only six months ago!

I am so glad you guys looked into the Windsor Hills option. The folks on the Disney Resorts board can be so Disney-centric that they don't realize that there can be better options for large groups. You will be so happy with Disney's Magical Escape, it was a great townhome in awesome condition. And it would literally take about four minutes to get onto Disney property!

There was one really funny story that came from our offsite trip. One night we were leaving Epcot and for whatever reason, we just didn't take the correct exit and so we kept circling back around to Epcot. I was convinced Mickey was trying to keep us "in the bubble." :lmao:

October trips are so much fun... Food and Wine Festival is just amazing and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is simply so much fun. :cool1: The next TR will definitely be epic, the trip is 10 days long (twice as long as we've ever stayed at Disney).

Thanks for joining in on the fun on this TR!

13. Columbia Harbor House clam chowder, fried shrimp

DSC0635-L.jpg

DSC0636-L.jpg

Everyone loves Columbia Harbor House because it’s one of the counter service restaurants that avoids the burger/hot dog theme-park food cliche. Franklin especially loves the seafood-centric menu (don’t worry land lovers, there are other options as well). So this entry is all him. Let’s set the scene a bit. His first encounter with this particular meal was in 2010. It was a late-October day during a typical Florida heatwave. It was 90+ degrees and humid. Walking into that crisp CHH air conditioning felt so good. So imagine my surprise when we step up to order and the first thing out of Franklin’s mouth is “clam chowder.” Whaaaaaaaaat? Isn’t it, um, a little warm for something like that? Apparently not because he got it and loved it. Here’s what he had to say:

Still so worth eating, even when it’s 90 degrees.

Don’t worry, he didn’t forget about his entree:

The shrimp was really juicy and the batter was crisp and not at all soggy.

Speaking of Hot Fudge Sundae throwdowns... Will you be adding a visit to Beaches & Cream at any point on your October trip, or will you just be too full from all of the F&WF (Food & Wine Fun)?

I can't really give you a review of the No Way Jose or Kitchen Sink. I have never been to Beaches & Cream for dinner or dessert!

Totally agree, you definitely need a partner in crime for this snack.

They are really yummy, even yummier than they look!

There are two chances for us to try Beaches and Cream, on arrival day for lunch or on Day 2 for dinner after we get back from DHS. I can't believe you've never been to B&C! Can't they take away your Beach Club Queen crown for something like that? :lmao: I will most definitely be eating there AND getting a sundae for dessert.

Well, don't tell them!!!

*ducks as an entire can of whipped cream is thrown at my head* :duck:

Plus, I think Teena wears the Beach Club crown as Queen. Lily is the Princess. I must be the Prime Minister or something.

Now I have actually had a meal at Beaches & Cream, but it was breakfast. During our first trip to the BC in July 2009, they were testing out a CS breakfast at B&C. It was awesome, I don't know why they discontinued it. T. said too many people said they didn't like it. :confused3

Need to get caught back up on your trip report and latest food installment.

There might be more than a can of whipped cream coming for your head. But don't worry, you're secret is safe with me!

I don't even know what I'll eat for my meal, but I do know what I'm having for dessert! That would be a fudge mud slide. ::yes::

Oh, and I think you should be the high priestess of the Beach Club (totally agree on Teena though).

12. Le Chefs de France onion soup

DSC1118-L.jpg

DSC1121-L.jpg

There are lots of things in the French pavillion that deserve to make this list: The ham and cheese sandwich, the chocolate mousse, the croissants... The list goes on and on. But I’m going to focus on just one item, the French onion soup at Le Chefs de France.

This is another restaurant that gets decidedly mixed reviews her on the Dis. But our lunch there a couple of years ago was excellent and my favorite part of the meal was my appetizer.

You see, it was a rainy afternoon at Epcot. And the temp was just a smidge cooler than it had been all week.

DSC1126-L.jpg

I’m never cold, but somehow I was actually FREEZING! So when I saw the soup on the menu, I knew what I was getting.

The biggest knock against French onion soup can be that it’s too salty, but my soup at Le Chefs de France was just perfect. Not too salty, plenty of cheese and lots of taste. And for those of you wondering, the soup can be ordered as part of the prix fixe lunch!

11. Funnel cake
Walt Disney World was built because Walt Disney believed families deserved more than the run-of-the-mill carnivals and amusement parks. Luckily for us, WDW didn’t abandon EVERYTHING about carnivals and amusement parks. Namely their fondness for deep-fried snacks. In this case, we’re talking about funnel cake.

The two places you can get funnel cakes are at Sleepy Hollow.

DSC0990-L.jpg

And at Boardwalk.

DSC0463-L.jpg

There’s just one problem when Franklin and I order a funnel cake, we disagree greatly on the amount of powdered sugar. Franklin likes powdered sugar with a side of funnel cake, I like mine with barely a wisp of sugar. Dee suggested on my TR that we try to order one with sugar on only half, so that solution is on the to-do list for October!

I've been wanting to try Chefs de France for awhile now solely for that French Onion soup. It looks delicious, and I can only imagine how nice it must have been on a cold day at Disney. :lovestruc

Funnel cakes....mmm. :goodvibes You can also get funnel cakes near the entrance to FotLK. It's in a snack kiosk, but they're actually pretty good.

thank you so much for suggesting it. Seeing the town homes was the first thing that my hubby got excited about regarding our trip so we will definitely be staying at Windsor Hills. And the money will will save can't be beat! If you want to share any other tips about staying off site, I am all ears.

I can't wait to hear all about it. It will help me fill the time before our trip next year!
