Pee Before Pooh- It's a Real DIVE! (10/29)

After our spooky spin, I suggested we go on the train- ALL the way around. My mom and aunt squealed like little girls and exclaimed that they, neither of them, had been on it for over 20 years. “Well! What better time than now”, I said. I wheeled Aunt Cherrie up the ramp, and we were asked if she’d be staying in the chair or transferring. The easiest option was just staying put in the chair, so we were directed to the back of the train, onto which is attached a car that is half devoid of seats. (Behind that was the Pullman coach that other able-bodied passengers could ride in if they wanted.) There we waited on the loading ramp until all the other passengers were loaded and the conductor made an announcement that they going to take the shortest train ride EVER. It was cute. Here’s why: The engineer had pulled the train up to just shy of the wheelchair loading ramp and needed to edge the train up about 4 inches so the loading ramp could be let down. Where it was, a metal barrier was in the way of it lowering. Yep, you heard me, about 4 inches. So with the greatest of train driving skill, the engineer babied that massive hulk of steel with the care of a mother for its newborn, and right on target, it stopped exactly where it needed to be for the ramp to come down for us to load. On we went into our own car, all the while my mom and aunt were wondering if all the “freaky” dinosaurs were still there. While they gushed on, I took a couple of photos from our vantage point:

Disney2011207.jpg

Disney2011208.jpg

Chug, Chug, Chug… Toot, Toot!!! It was fabulous- everything about it. Seriously, this is a massively overlooked attraction, and both Mom and Cherrie were almost in tears, overwhelmed with memories. They gushed about being together, the 3 of them (remember Cousin Dorothy comes tomorrow) riding around thinking they were “so cool” (yes, they really admitted that) in their Bermuda beach shorts and cat eye glasses. I’m telling you, these chicks were hot stuff, and strutted about Disneyland like they owned it- they admitted that too about the time they passed the Speedway, where they were literally howling with laughter recalling how they’d race each other around that track hoping to attract the boys’ attention in their teeny bopper sweaters and pony tails. It was hilarious watching them take a trip down memory lane, and I couldn’t help but get the warm fuzzies seeing how much they were enjoying themselves.

Not long into our circuit, they waxed on and on over the dinosaurs that are indeed still there. If I had more than a POC camera, I might have been able to get a couple of decent shots in the dark on a speeding train for you. Speeding, of course, is a relative term, but don’t say that the next time you get pulled over.

Disney2011211.jpg

Disney2011212.jpg

Disney2011213.jpg

All too soon, we were back in NOS, and it was time to get off. Same drill; the engineer had parked his rig precisely 4 inches too shy of his mark, and we had to wait for all the other passengers to get off so the engineer could move the train so the conductor could roll down our ramp. It’s a good thing we were in absolutely no hurry; in fact, that’s a very liberating way to do Disney, I’ve learned. Commando has its place, but some trips deserve the attention to detail only slowing down can afford; and some trips deserve attention to relationship building, which only taking a bit of extra time can render.

Once off, I informed my little group that there was one thing we hadn’t done yet that was on my bucket list: tasting one of these…

Disney2011216.jpg

And you can’t have one of these without just a few of these:

Disney2011215.jpg

So we sat in the shade munching on fresh beignets and sipping a cool mint julep (without the kick, which is entirely too bad because let’s be real, what’s a julep without the bourbon?) while listening to some schnazzy jazz just behind us on the stage. It was the sweetest of moments and I wanted to capture that moment, as well as just immerse myself in knowing how precious it was.

Disney2011219.jpg

Disney2011218.jpg

Thoroughly refreshed it was time to hit the bathroom. And since it was so convenient and lovely, we chose the one we’d already patronized just a bit earlier. I love that bathroom! Next we decided to meander over to Fantasyland to see what fun we could conjure up there. Upon approaching the castle, it struck me how miniscule it really is compared to Cindy’s pad over in Orlando.

Disney2011222.jpg

Aurora clearly got the short end of the stick concerning real estate. Maybe she needs to take that up with the fairies sometime- just sayin’. But hey, location, location, location!! And check out some of the details. I need to get on that with my own fairy, I think. My interior decoration skills stink, and well, let’s not even get started on the lack of magic wands waving down wads of cash.

Disney2011225.jpg

Disney2011223.jpg

Disney2011227.jpg

My photographic record shows that next we attempted Peter Pan, and were successful. It did require a transfer, and it went well again. It was so nice having the “transfer world” opened up to us! Cherrie informed us that “London” was her favorite part, while I have to say, that the mermaid lagoon is mine. Every time I rode PP as a 7-13 year old, I was immediately whisked away into a fantastical notion that I was one of those long-haired beauties who could breathe underwater and get away with wearing clam shells around in public and be normal. Dads, please talk to your girls after this ride and help them understand this is not ok anywhere off this ride! Tell them also, that it is not okay to take drugs, or they might see whacked out hallucinations that could look like this:

Disney2011228.jpg

We did not want to ride the teacups, as Cherrie can’t hold herself upright anymore, but I did get a couple of nice photos of the cheery lanterns as we passed:

Disney2011230.jpg

Disney2011233.jpg

And I just gotta say, that cute little music track they play at the teacups in Anaheim is just the catchiest, neatest little tune I ever did hear! It hasn’t changed in all the years I’ve been going and I still absolutely adore it to this day!
And while we all longed to ride the Storybook Boats, there was ZERO way we could get her down into the boat. Perhaps another day I could disappear down Monstro’s gullet to the land of wee chalets.

Disney2011231.jpg

Disney2011232.jpg

And now, as I bid you a fond farewell until next time, I hope that all your dreams

Disney2011220.jpg

Disney2011221.jpg

Have a Magical Day!!

Disney2011219.jpg

I seem to recall this shirt. I believe it's made an appearance here on the boards before.:goodvibes

Disney2011218.jpg

I love this photo!! So fantastic of the three of you!

I love the big 'ol Monstro!

Disney2011232.jpg

Do you remember Casey's Circus Train too?? Is that still there or did they take it out?:confused3

What a great update. And how fun they got to go down memory lane. How wonderful to share that moment.

Great update as usual!

Awww, thanks so much!! Glad you enjoyed it!

Do you remember Casey's Circus Train too?? Is that still there or did they take it out?:confused3

Yes!! Another of my favorites!! I thought I got a great.... oh WAIT!! I don't want to spill any beans here.... You'll have to hang on... :rolleyes1

(But yes, it is still there...)

What a great update. And how fun they got to go down memory lane. How wonderful to share that moment.

Thanks for your complements! Watching them have their fun flashbacks was super fun! And I really felt priveleged to be part of it all :)

I had heard about this the other day. I am not sure how I feel, and I get the idea that it is going to be a Princess meet and greet type of thing. If so what will they do with the other location? Possibly take it back for shows again? If so I like that idea a lot.

One of the rides my mom and aunt had really hoped to see was:

Disney2011236.jpg

It’s so, so much prettier at DLR than in Orlando, so I was really looking forward to experiencing it myself! But first we had a LONG wait at the handicapped entrance (read: exit) before we could get down to the loading area. Seriously, they had one boat running for wheelchairs, so we were treated to the “show” a couple of times- that means we were there in the sun at least 16 minutes. For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, please, immediately proceed to your nearest YouTube and check out the cool little show that pops out of the front of attraction every 15 minutes. It’s lovely; it’s whimsical; it’s fun for young and old alike. I’d load it up for you, but my bandwidth sucks here at home, so I can’t/won’t bother to try.

Disney2011237.jpg

Disney2011235.jpg

Disney2011239.jpg

Finally, our turn came and we loaded; Aunt Cherrie perched on the elevated stern like Jack Aubrey on the Surprise, and we underlings parked it on damp seats where a million shoes have trod, ensuring we’d emerge with brown and itchy butts. You know what I’m talking about….

I’ve always been fascinated with the “pre-show” on this ride. Hearing “that song” in half a dozen languages is pretty cool, and I remember as a young child trying to guess what iteration was playing as we happily sailed along. All too soon we entered the enchanted land of happy dollies, all with basically the same faces and smiles. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I am really captivated by the shimmer and sparkle of it all. I guess I was probably one of those kids who emptied the glitter bottles in kindergarten being very careful to make sure ALL of it was on my projects and not on the floor.

Disney2011242.jpg

Disney2011243.jpg

Disney2011245.jpg
(I took this one because this is the scene of costumes that are from where we’ve just moved back from)

Disney2011246.jpg

Disney2011248.jpg

As a package sort of deal, this attraction just hits the mark for entertainment. Even the most hardened manly man’s gotta admit that you just can’t help but hum along and at least enjoy watching the kids around you have a great time. There’s so much to see and take in, you just can’t tackle it all; all around you there’s a cacophony of spinning figures, twinkling lights, glimmering tinsel, all wrapped up in a pretty amazing orchestral soundtrack written by an Academy Award winning team of brothers. What’s not to like?

Disney2011256.jpg

Mom and Cherrie were thoroughly enjoying themselves, and seemed just as enraptured as I was. It was fun to cruise along and point out our favorites while singing along in our private floating carriage. We didn’t’ have to worry about humming off key or getting in someone’s view as we took our WAY too many photos. We were wrapped up in the moment- inside our happy haven there was no pain, no sickness, no sadness.

Disney2011260.jpg

Disney2011262.jpg

Disney2011263.jpg

But, all journeys must come to an end, as happy as they may be. It was time to say goodbye to our old animated friends…

Disney2011267.jpg

Disney2011266.jpg

Disney2011265.jpg

Or so we thought…..

Rounding the corner to the fleet’s lineup, we soon discovered that there was a massive back up, and things were generally in a state of static chaos. Instead of the usual streamlined flow, we saw guests baking under the summer sun with no escape- at least not on the side we NEEDED to be on.

Instead we saw this:

Disney2011269.jpg

Disney2011268.jpg

Look carefully, and you’ll see that in each of their hands was a long stick, and they were busy pushing the boats along the track. When our turn came to be pushed, we were informed that our side’s track was not working and at this point there was no way to offload us since we HAD to go on that side where the wheelchair ramp was. The boats they COULD push through had to go around again, as did we. Ok, once is great; two would be twice as good, right??

it's a world of laughter, a world of tears
it’s a world of hopes, it’s a world of fear
there’s so much that we share
that its time we're aware
it’s a small world after all

CHORUS:
It’s a small world after all
It’s a small world after all
It’s a small world after all
It’s a small, small world

There is just one moon and one golden sun
And a smile means friendship to everyone.
Though the mountains divide
And the oceans are wide
It's a small, small world

(chorus)

Over, and over, and over, and over it sang out, by this time mocking us, just as the once happy grins on the faces of the dolls began to taunt us, asking, “Just how much of this can you endure?” Seriously, as much as I love this ride, by the 3rd minute in, I was praying that our track would be fixed and we could exit fully sane, lucid and whole.

Disney2011274.jpg

Disney2011275.jpg

I remember texting a couple of my DISFriends telling them the worse DISNightmare had come true, or at least one that we had many times joked about before on previous threads. I couldn’t help but think how utterly ironic this situation was. But those who know me best could guess that I took the lemons and made some pretty fantastic lemonade. The first time around I completely messed up my every opportunity to get photos of the characters they’ve added to the ride. This time around, I got nearly all of them. Check it out!

Disney2011277.jpg

So did we manage to come off undamaged??

Disney2011280.jpg

You be the judge. One thing we did manage to work up was a rather large hankering to visit our next stop- in fact, it was the one that inspired the title for this Trip Report! Just in case you were wondering, it was this one:

Disney2011283.jpg

Which I think has the cutest signage of all the potties around!

More next time, and May All Your Dreams Come True!

Good morning!

Did you happen to see this? I'm not sure how I feel about it.:confused3

http://www.wdwinfo.com/disneyland-california/disneyland-fantasyland.htm#fantasyfaire

I'm not sure what to think of that. It'll be interesting to see what "entertainemnt" ends up there. It is odd to me that they're spilling this onto Main Street at all. Huh.

That's kinda what I thoght too; another way to make money too, probably. I'm not a show-watching afficionado, so anything to keep the shows kinda out of the way is great with me. ;)

Oh my goodness I was feeling all the happy thoughts and memories I have from that ride as I saw the last tunnel in your pictures and then the scary truth reared it's ugly head. How many times did you loop around through the ride? We were stuck in the ride once during Christmas, we were stuck long enough to realize that as well as the happy holiday music playing in the background they were still playing Small World in the background.

I don't understand why they don't have more than one boat that is handicap capable or why cannot disembark on both sides. What a silly setup.

Sitting in the shade on a hot day can be a relief some days, that being said I am much happier to see the shows someplace like that than the street shows in DCA.

We only had to loop through once more, but what I forgot to mention (I'll go back and edit this in) was that they put the ride speed on "as slow as it can go". What's normally about a 10 minute cruise was more like 20. It was LONG, long, long! I think in total from when we got in line to when we left, we'd seen that cuckoo clock style show something like 5 times. :scared1

I dont' either. They really should be able to get the handicapped off the ride at least from both sides, if not run more than one boat. :confused3

True dat! Although, I"ve gotta be AWFULLY hot to do it. And ITA about those shows at DCA- I was not impressed, but happy for all the folks who were there instead of in line with me at ToT! :thumbsup2

To me it would make sense to have a handicap accessible boat on each side. That way that boat could go either way too. And going that slow well it had to be nice for the glittery details.:rotfl:

So true but if you don't watch out you get caught up in the crowd and you get stuck there.

Thank you so very much for writing out the words Liesa. Really. I appreciate it.:rolleyes1

Oh, that'd be tough twice in a row. I think maybe twice in one day, not consecutively, would be my limit. I do appreciate, however, the sacrifice you made for those really awesome pictures! I had no idea they'd added those fantastic little characters into the scenery. Very nice touches, they really do look like they belong.

I have one other sign that I like a little bit better than that one, it's in the bathrooms near "Alice in Wonderland". You know the ones that look like a castle on the outside? It was a princess hat, I wonder if it's still there? That one seems to resonate with me.:goodvibes

It never fails, all it takes is for me to see the song in writing and I can hear it all running through my head.:lmao:

The afternoon marched quickly on, and yet we still had so much to see! We had spent a fair amount of time in NOS, went all the way around the park on one of Walt’s beloved trains, and had walked through Fantasyland where we were “rewarded” with not one, but two rounds of happy, dancing, singing dolls. But before we left the “happiest cruise that ever sailed, we hit up that ever-now-famous (to us) charming little bathroom with the dancing marionette girl. Then we slowly made our way towards Bear Country:

Hope to ride you tomorrow!

Looks fun, but no time today…

Disney2011286.jpg

Once upon a time, I was a CM inside the Blue Bayou Restaurant. Specifically, I was a hostess who seated guests, set tables and eventually moved up to cashier. It was a wonderful job that paid well and was a ton of fun! I’d work for Disney again in a heartbeat- maybe in my old age...
Anyway, Mom and Aunt Cherrie agreed to let me ride Pirates for a trip down memory lane while they found a shady spot to just sit and talk for a bit, while I stepped over to here:

Disney2011287.jpg

The line was not horribly long, and I think I got to:

Disney2011300.jpg

in about 10 minutes. Seriously, I did NOT know that the loading area had a backstory name! You learn something new every day! The pre-show and queue area to this ride is so vastly different here at DLR, and frankly I MUCH prefer this whimsical scene and the bayou cabin scene! I love how it gives a sense of traveling from South Florida and on into the Caribbean with cute little features like twinkling fireflies and dead guys with crabs crawling around them,

Disney2011299.jpg

and this charming place to stop off for some great Cajun fare:

Disney2011288.jpg

More scenes along the way:

I had a wonderful and raucous cruise to looted cities and back, and quickly met back up with the others. They were ready to move on, and we remembered that we had been headed to Pooh just after we peed. So that’s what we did. I am quite pleased with how these photos turned out as compared to my ultra-crappy POC ones. The lighting makes all the difference, I guess. Anyway, enjoy the scenes of the Poohy-est ride at DLR!

Now, you must know that although going through IaSW twice can drive one nearly insane, going through Pooh twice generally does not. It is shorter, and the song is far less annoying. So we opted to stay on when we came back to the ride launch area where the background noise is buzzing bees. For some reason that just strikes me as so clever and appropriate!

After cruising through the 100 Acre Wood a second time, we started to ask each other if they were hungry. You know how women do that. Men just come right out and say, “I’m hungry!” Women are more demure in groups of just women and hint around to pass off being polite. After a bit of word jockeying, it was unanimous that we were hungry and by the time we’d actually sit down, order and get food, we’d be REALLY hungry. But where to? Well, first Aunt Cherrie wanted to stop off and look for a couple of gifts for her kids. We ended up here where she found a couple of T-shirts,

Disney2011311.jpg

And I browsed around too, and found those gifts for the winners on my other thread. I hope you enjoyed them; this is where they were found 

Who doesn’t love the Disney-esque theming oozing from every nook and cranny and ceiling?!?

Disney2011312.jpg

We made our destination of the New Orleans Café- the other place you can get a Monte Cristo Sandwich, but without the wait.

Disney2011313.jpg

By a stroke of wonderful luck, we were the very last party they allowed in as we hit it right at closing! We ended up with an indoor table, and were mighty glad of it, as the evening took on a chill that we were ill prepared for. Even so, a door was propped open and we sat a little cold, yet the laughter and stories warmed our hearts, as did the food!

The menu looked fabulous and we had a really hard time deciding what we each would get. I am not a huge eater, so I let my mom decide what to get, and we would split. For starters, we ended up with these:

Disney2011314.jpg

POMME FRITTES!!! (Glenn and Magdalene, you oughtta LOVE that photo!) They were positively amazing! They were perfectly seasoned, perfectly crispy, perfectly dipped in the side sauces! And of course after all that, it was pretty tough to finish the smoked salmon spinach salad Mom and I shared, and for Aunt Cherrie to eat all of her seafood crepes- which were equally tantalizing! She raved about them for the entire meal, and was generous with sharing. By the time we settled up and left, it was time to find a spot for the fireworks.

I won’t leave you with a bunch of blurry, sad attempts at the show, but instead try to paint a picture of the pure awe Mom and Aunt Cherrie were in. They sat/stood there utterly amazed at the beauty of what they were seeing in the sky and on the castle and on the children’s faces all around us. They could hardly believe that such an remarkable show could exist and be transformed by the music, light show and general scent of Main Street.Like the young ones nearby their faces were carved with wonder and delight at each colorful explosion, and yes, my friends, there were teary eyes and full, content hearts.

We were rather quiet as we headed back up Main Street headed toward the Anabella for the night; what more could be added to the magical feeling we all shared. Something had transcended words; for a few moments all was right in our world.
