*** TOC at end of 1st post!***

A trip to Disneyland, at least for me, is so much more than just a day to ride on rides and eat a bag of popcorn; our family is steeped in Disney history from almost the year it opened in 1955, and our collective memories run deep with not only countless trips to the parks, but also with animators, and the studios. Join with me on an epic tale of one last trip to a magical place for a very special woman, who loves these parks as much as I do. It was my pleasure and privilege to be a part of making some special last memories with 2 beautiful and dear ladies. Some of what we experienced together I have chosen to keep to myself; some memories are just too precious to be shared. But there were many, many things that I am delighted to bring to you with hopes you can be touched and moved as much as we were. Even as I sit typing this I am misting up at knowing this is the end of a golden era…

But let me start with a brief introduction of who we are so you can follow along better.

The star of our show (Walt always had his mind on presenting a show) is my dear, and always in my mind, incredibly beautiful Aunt Cherrie. She was my “idol” for as long as I remember; her gift of gracious hostessing, making her home a luxurious, inviting place, and her impeccable attention to detail in fashion and presentation of self were things I have always admired in her. In short, she always “had it together”. Given that, I find it incredibly ironic that she is now entering the advanced stages of ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Here is a link if you are interested in learning more about this horrible affliction.

http://www.lougehrig.com/about/als.htm

She still “has it together”. Even with her body falling apart, she gives glory to God every day for the time she has, has more joy in her life than most people I know who have a working body and all the money they could ever need, and she still wouldn’t be caught dead without looking like a million bucks.

Next is my mom. I love her more than life itself. She is my confidante, and another woman of great faith that I admire greatly. Aside from her mother (my grandmother for those of you who are keeping score), she was the one responsible for passing on her love for all things Disney. As you’ll see in this little TR, there was a BUNCH of reminiscing of Disney memories. Mom and Aunt Cherrie figure that they have been coming to Disneyland regularly since 1956. I hope I can pass along some of the conversations I overheard during our 3 days together. Some, I can guarantee will simply amaze you!!

Of course, there is also myself. I give you warm greetings.

(that was pretty random, but I think some of you will find it at least a little amusing- you can best learn about that on my other TR, link in siggie)

I am 44 when I can remember how old I am. Ask my regular readers, and you’ll learn I often forget my age and “repeat” a year here and there. I have 5 GREAT kids from 9 to 20 who love a trip to the parks as much as I do. Beginning this fall, I am headed back to school to become an RN, so I can make more bucks to burn at, well, I’m sure you’ve already guessed by now. I’ve been going to the Anaheim park since I was 2 or 3, so that would be since about 1970. My favorite park is still EPCOT’s World Showcase, but will take any opportunity I can get to be able to go to ANY Disney park.

Lastly, for one of our 3 days my aunt’s and mom’s cousin, Carol, came and met us for the day. She was one of the “trio” who would spend summer days at Disneyland. Mom, Aunt Cherrie and Carol spent many a good time romping around together making those same memories I will pass along on our journey. She still lives in Burbank, only minutes from the original Disney studio, and has some really cool personal history herself from the mid- 50’s at the Disney company. I hope they are as fun for you to learn about as they have been for me!

My hope is to update at least once a week, but I also am in the middle of a rather large TR from my trip to WDW last September. Yes, we’re 9 months into that baby, and I’m still only on Day 4 of a 12 day trip. You can find that TR

HERE

I like to take my time in the story telling, so hope you will bear with me as I try to re-create for you,

Pee Before Pooh

Wha…??!!?? Yeah, I just had to use it. It was the theme of our trip. Number 1, that is. With Cherrie having less and less “function”, and me with my morning coffee consumption, and mom with her 4 gallons of iced tea with lunch, it was a party in the lady’s room- again, and again, and again…. But funnier than that, it was actually a line my aunt blurted out as we were on our way to ride Pooh. Once again, for the dozenth time that morning already, Cherrie slurs out- “So, let’s pee before Pooh!” It was instant belly laughing, as we all looked at each other hardly believing she actually said it, knowing full well the pun she had just made. It was hilarious, and maybe you had to be there, but seriously, I still snort laugh when I think about it.

So there you have it, a tidy little introduction to our trip on June 22, 23, and 25th. Yes, we skipped a day, and the cast changes a bit, but more on that later. For now, just click that reply button and tell me you’re ready to laugh, cry and be amazed. Better yet, join in the conversation and tell me what you think along the way; it’s WAY more fun to have others along for the ride- afterall this may just be:

Oh thank you for your warm welcome! I think this will just as wonderful for me to write as it is for you to read. Something therapeutic about getting it all out "on paper"...

Glad to have you aboard the ship! :goodvibes

This sounds like it was a pretty special trip! :thumbsup2 I have a feeling I'll need to keep my tissues at the ready for this one. And yes, that is a pretty snort-worthy title. :goodvibes

Nice to "meet" you Shawna!!!! So glad you've decided to join our party- and yes, there will be times you will need to break out those Kleenex's! Sometimes you'll laugh so hard you'll cry and sometimes, you may just cry.

Yay, a real professional down on the DL Trip Report section. :worship:

Sounds like a great trip, as long as we're not laughing so hard we're wetting ourselves (as fitting as it would be), it's all good. I'll just skip past the cry-y parts.

Haha, I don't know if I'd actually call myself a professional, but I do love to spin a good yarn, and will put in links to the chapters, AND give you a happy boatload of pix.

I have to say, I'm loving your screen name, as I tend to be one too. I hope lots of others will chime in and make this a fun thread too!!!

I laughed when I read your comment about wetting ourselves. They just dubbed me Leaky Liesa on the other TR over on the WDW side- which was a nifty little sub for Tiki Liesa. :lmao: Perfect tie in for this one, I'd say. ;)

:welcome: and happy sailing!

If that isn't an attention-grabbing title...I don't know what is! :rotfl: Sounds like you all had a very memorable trip. Looking forward to hearing more about it. :goodvibes

Another Salem Oregon DISer!!! :cool1:

9 mths into a trip report......I would have totally forgotten many things I would have shared......lol I'm one that gets home & kicks out one day in a day until I have it completed....while it's all fresh & the Disney magic is still flowing. I tend to give lots of reviews, pics etc & even with my notes need to do so before the regular routine of hectic life takes over.

Looking forward to seeing more!!

I'm in! It sounds Amazing! I can't wait to meet your family, and hear about your history with my favorite place on earth!

It was super easy to come up with this title - I knew it was IT as soon as she said it! I really look forward to sharing all kinds of memories we made! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 A big huge welcome to you!!

AWESOME!! close company!!! There are actually several more, and boy, oh boy, it'd be fun to have a coffee DISMeet! I drive my DH crazy with all my DISTalk, so it's fun to have someone else I can yack it up with! :goodvibes

Nope, I really try to put a lot of feeling and thought into my writing, and the longer i draw it out, the longer I get to relive my trips. I only get to go once in a blue moon, and writing these keeps me "there". I take pretty careful notes, so have that to draw on as well. And well... life is always hectic with 5 kids. LOL! So I keep plugging away as I can.

Hi there! And :welcome:! I hope I can do our trip justice with the stories and pictures- some things are pretty hard to capture. :goodvibes

I wasn't aware of other Salem DISer's.....cool!!

I understand the hectic kid thing......I have 7 kids!! One lives up in Tigard, but the rest were living here up to last Friday. One son just moved out & back to Medford & my other grown son is moving out to Independence so he can go to Western in the fall.

That leaves 4 at home.....4 I adopted & all come with their own quirks & special needs from coming from the foster care system.
My 10 yr old son we got at 13mths, mom was a meth, marijuana & alcohol user (even during pregnancy), so he has many issues from A.D.D. to Reactive Attachment Disorder.
My 5 (almost 6) yr old daughter came to us at 2mths, mom used meth during pregnancy & while breast feeding. She has separation anxiety & is the biggest Diva I've ever seen. You'd swear she was 16 already.....woof....a handful that's for sure!
My twin 4 yr olds came right out of the NICU to us. Both parents are low IQ & meth users. One has Pierre Robin Sequence (snowball effect that happens in the womb) which included Cleft Palate, ear issues & cardiac issues. She also has autism, cognatively a 9mth old & is g-tube fed. Her sister has some of the same issues, but not extreme enough for a diagnosis. She's on the fence with autism......tested ok, not great but also had a great day they did it......didn't really reflect the normal day to day with her. Early intervention believes she's on the spectrum & so do we.

So I am a stay at home mom & LIVE for Disney trips. We've been trying to go once a year & last summer was the first time all 7 of our kids went with us. It was a long road trip, but also very memorable!!

So hectic would be putting it nicely....... :rotfl2:

How awesome to get to know you a bit! Let's think about sneaking out for coffee sometime soon! I'm pretty flexible.

I love getting to know other DISers, and have made some VERY close friends along the way- in fact, my last trip to WDW was with a friend (maybe you 'know' her- maroo who hangs on the WISH Trippers threads a lot) I met right here on the DIS. We just had a BIG PNW DISMeet in Salem at the Reed Opera House, and can certainly arrange another; I know 4 of us who would def. be there!!

Anyway, you DO sound like a busy mom who has a big heart!! But still has the urge to play and be young at heart! It's a privelege to know you! :goodvibes

I tend to stick to the DL threads & TR, since I've never ventured anywhere but DL....lol
I went to the DISabilities thread once & won't do that again....couldn't believe how rude some of the posters were...it's almost like they get a thrill of berating others.

If you ever do another get together here in town....let me know!!

I'm the same way; I spend 98% of my time on the WDW TR threads because that's where most of my homies hang out. We laugh and joke a lot over there, and poke fun at each other, but when tough times roll around, we stick together tighter than glue.

I've been to the Community Boards and the TP&A threads, but it's a brutal world over there. Here it's about telling our stories and making friendships.

I'm in. Sounds like a special trip.
