How many of you wear pedometers to the park and about how many steps do you take in a day and at which park?

My wife and I were on a health kick a few years ago -- we lost 160 pounds between us. We wore our pedometers everywhere including WDW.

We didn't keep track by park, and please understand that we were doing far more walking than normal, because we were working on losing weight more than working on visiting attractions. :)

We did about eight miles per day, on average.

lol i did. I'd just got a freebie pedometer and was eager to try it out. Only problem was when on rides like Gwazi (i think that's spelling) in busch and big thunder mountain it added loads of steps! That's what u get for a cheap one. Around magic kingdom in the morning we did just over 15,000 steps but again i can't tell u how reliable that is.

Have fun with it :cool1:

We always wear one and just returned 2 weeks ago. We average between 8 to 10 miles daily. However, this past trip we were at the BWV, so walking to MGM and EPCOT every day or so from the BW added a little more steps too. Our record is 14 miles in one day (also staying at the BW that trip too). Not sure if we'll ever break our record, but we try. (BTW: I had just had back surgery prior to this trip--only 6 weeks before leaving, so was surprised I managed to walk as much as I did, but it certainly helped my recovery.)

I read somewhere the average person walks 5-7 miles a day at Disney, so out of curiosity, I took a pedometer last trip and I found out 5-7 miles is on the LOW side of things! Our first day we walked 10.13 miles, the second day was 9.82 miles, our highest day was AK day at 11.37 miles and our low day was 8.39 miles. It was fun to check the pedometer every night.

We walked around 10 miles per day. I walk 3-4 miles per day at home for exercise so I was surprised we only walked 10 at WDW. I always felt like we walked 100 miles per day there!

We've done this for years. Our experience has been a light day amounted to about 3 miles, and average day about 7 and if you work at it (meaning to attempt to maximize your walking) we've averaged about 13 miles. Our biggest mileage day was once about 14 1/2 miles.

HTH

I've been wearing my pedometer to WDW for years. I record my daily milage and include it in my trip reports.

My daily average falls right in the 5-7 mile range, with Epcot naturally being a bit more at around 7-9 miles. My highest day on record, however, was 21.8 miles (April 22, 1999), and on that day I was AK, resort hopped to WL, and spent the evening at MGM.

Now do you have your pedometers set to tell you how many miles you walked? Or do you follow the whole about two 2000 steps is a mile? I'm considering wearing mine. I'm scared to lose it cuz it was so expensive hahaha. I have a cheap one though that I got for free when I worked with kids (part of a grant we got). I think it would be interesting to see how much we walk.

Good point. We've had our pedometers tell us wildly different things, even though my wife and I only got separated when going to the rest rooms. :) Unless the hallway through the woman's room is a mile long, it's pretty easy to get inaccurate data out of the pedometers.

I dont remember the steps but I wore a pedometer on a 12 hour Disney day and we walked 13 miles!! I knew we walked alot, but thats really good exercise. If you do a lot of walking I think it really makes it okay to have those extra snacks at Disney. We are not big junk food eaters, in fact, I pretty much don't buy any, but on vacation, thats another story, lol!

I got a really nice pedometer at Walgreens about a year ago; it'll tell you how many steps, miles, aerobic steps (it considers anything over 10 mins. continuous walking aerobic), aerobic minutes, and calories burned. The last time I was @ WDW, I made a conscious effort to walk as much as possible (without interfering with my being able to see everything I wanted to), and I ended up walking 76 miles in 7 days, with the high being 14.27 and the low being 6.94 on a travel day. I just like wearing a pedomter down there in general; it makes it a little easier to swallow when you finally get back to your room at night, exhausted after a full day @ the parks, and promptly get sent back out with mugs to get everybody's sodas for them. At least you're adding more steps! ;)

Mine is a Weight Watchers pedometer. It tells me steps, miles, and even points! You figure out your stride measurement and set it to that. To make sure it is accurate you can do what I did. I walked a certain path of 3 miles. I then went and drove the same path with my car and compared the mileage to make sure it was the same.

My DS had apanic attack when he could not find his last year. He writes in his book how many miles each day and each trip.
