I wonder if someone has some more info on this for me.

A friend told me that somewhere in World Showcase in Epcot, you can buy an oyster. Open the oyster, and you get to keep any pearls that may be in there. Do you know how much it costs, and in which country you do this?

Also, is it in Japan where there's a woman who sculptures candy?

Pretty sure it's in the Japan section where they make the animal candy on a stick...I also believe it's in the Japan section where you can get to pick an oyster, they open it, and the pearl(s) inside are yours to keep....did it 30 years ago June...1976....picked two oysters and both had two pearls in them! I believe they also have a stand along the Beach/Yacht/Boardwalk walkway...and there even may be one at Downtown Disney! They also have settings (earrings, rings, necklaces) that you can pick and have the pearl(s) placed in ....of course for additional charge! Nice souvenir!

Oh you do have to use the Search up at the top and search for this - it is in the World Showcase Epcot - Japan - and I belive the reports are $14 for the "pearl" and then you can choose to set it and lots of prices - 14K gold, or SS -

some have even posted pictures!!

DD loves to do the Oysters at Sea World - they have a large oyster tank, and the divers go down and bring up a handful of oysters for you, and you get to pick the one you want... they say the uglier the shell - the more beautiful the pearl.

It is $14.99/oyster at SW, I would expect Disney would be about the same. I think we are going to hit EPCOT this weekend, and I might treat her to one a Japan.... (it will be a way to get her to go to the WS)

We now have 7 pearls - we got twins one time... and we also have gotten a black, blue, and gold pearl. It is always a surprise as to what is waiting inside!

We just get the pearl at SW no setting- I figure by the time she is ready to get married (she is only 9) maybe we will have enough to make her a string of pearls - LOL!

Just under $14 with tax in Japan inside the large store (which I cannot spell or pronounce), starting at 12 noon to 5pm or so. 7mm seemed to be about the average of those who were choosing last week.

Just did this in Japan not to long ago.... it was around $15 a pearl I believe, and we got a very pretty one, big too !!

Have fun ! :thumbsup2

My DD and I love to do this during our trips. It is in Japan. They will also set it in a pin, ring, necklace all for a price.

I wore mine yesterday and received so many compliments. I spent right at $45 for the oyster and the pendent setting, which was SS. There are some that are cheaper and some that are a lot more expensive. They set it for you in about 20 minutes. I really think that makes it special to get to wear it once you get home. I plan to get a ring in September.

Oh, and you must stay for the Candy Lady. It is my favorite thing in WS.

Someone posted that the hours there are only 12:00-5:00. Is that right? Does anyone know if the one on the Boardwalk over by the Y&B is open later? We're going next month for our 25th wedding anniversary, and DH has already promised I can pick a pearl and get it set in a ring for a 25th gift. So it's very important that we know the times. And it takes about 20 minutes to get it set?

We finally saw the Candy Lady in November. It took us awhile to locate her, we thought she would be out in the open. Look for the little stand just outside the doors of the store in Japan. They have her show times posted in the guides. If you have kids try to make a point of arriving before she comes out. If they are up close she will choose them to make a candy animal of their choice. She made my dd a unicorn. She is amazing and watching her is fascinating. :thumbsup2
