What can you eat in the restaurants when you have certain food allergies?

It can vary based on ingredients and prep-cross contamination.

Some places have allergy menus. If you google for allergy menus you may find some. The gluten-free community seems to be doing a better job of that.

In general, You mention the allergy to the host/server and you generally talk to the chef to discuss possible options.

We have a seafood/shellfish allergy, and in most places we are fine just ordering anything without fish. But in Asian-type Cusine we have to ask since fish powder or fish sauce is a common seasoning in many non-fish dishes..and Caesar salads.
At Yak and Yeti this meant there were only a few non-fish options.
we did better at Teppan Edo, and last there we were seated with a family with a nut allergy and they had most choices available.

When you make an ADR, there is a place to mark special needs - including allergies. Do that, then reinforce it to your server. They will (should) ask if you would like to talk with a chef or if you're comfortable ordering off the allergy menu.

If ADRs have already been made, give them a call and have them added on. I believe you'd need to do this if your allergen is not listed as well.

I will say, if something is unusual (like a "histamine diet") or something like diabetes where the diet is not EXACTLY the same as everyone with diabetes (I've known several people with it, and each of them avoid different foods, so their needs still needed to be spelled out - much to the annoyance of one I know who fussed that her ordering was so difficult for the servers while my gluten-free "thing" was so simple), be prepared to meet with the chef and explain exactly what you can and can't eat.

But I've never had an issue with allergies and Disney.

Pretty much every Disney restaurant has an allergy menu for the Top 8. If it’s something besides those or you don’t like those options, a manager or chef can come discuss options with you. For QS, go to a cast member and ask for an allergy menu. When you make ADRs, there is a spot to mark allergies and remind the host/hostess when you check in.

Disney is probably the easiest place to eat at with allergies. I have 10+ allergies, including some pretty odd ones, and Disney is one of the few places I feel safe eating out.

My youngest has a peanut allergy. If you tell them when you check in or list it on your ADR, they will send the chef out to talk to you. Every time. They're really good about making sure you can eat safe. They have made special things for us before, even when there were other viable options. I can honestly say this is not an issue.

But, ice cream sundae's are not the best option for peanut allergies. My son did have some cross-contamination on a sundae one time. We've just avoided them since.

My peanut allergy "kid" is now 23; however, Disney was the best place for dining with allergies.

Back when he was a child (and no online booking) when I called to make my reservations, I also noted his allergies and they were noted in every restaurant we went to. The chef ALWAYS came out. If it was a buffet, the chef came out and walked us around the entire buffet and explained what he could and could not eat. They would also prep a plate for him in the kitchen if there were cross contamination concerns on the buffet.

Just note everything on your ADRs and if you go some place spur of the moment, tell your waiter.

I agree. I have a severe peanut allergy and the chef has always come out at the restaurants to chat about what is safe. I never felt uncomfortable. The only restaurant I've avoided is Ohana for dinner bc of all the peanut sauce.

My oldest is severely allergic to peanuts and tree nuts and she's eaten all over the place at WDW. I just make sure her allergies on our our ADRs when I book them, make sure it's noted when I check in, and then speak to our server about it. Lately the buffets are relying on the allergy menu, but they'll all still involve the chef if you need it. We have had a few issues...so you don't want to let down your guard (i.e. 'Ohana brought us the peanut sauce in error, a chef that wasn't as knowledgeable of the menu/issues as most are, etc.). Quick service is easier now with all of the allergy menus, but definitely ask questions if you have concerns there as well.

If you have 4 or more common allergies, any uncommon allergies, or a metabolic disorder...you qualify for the assistance of Special Diets. They have more info on this page as well as contact info. We don't qualify, but I know they are super helpful for those who do. https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/special-dietary-requests/
