My DS12 has a peanut allergy and we'll be staying at the beach club. I know that Beaches and Cream has peanut butter sundaes, just wondering if anyone has had any experience there. On our last trip we had no problems at all with the allergy, just avoided certain places (like the candy stores), but we would all love to have a meal at Beaches and Cream. Any thoughts? His allergy is not severe, ingestion only.

Thanks,

Then go ahead and have dinner there. Ice cream parlours are considered not safe for people with inhalation peanut allergies but for ingestion only you will do fine. They will open a new container of ice cream and get clean scoops and make sure no peanuts come near his food.

Their menu is at the above link. In the FAQs in the sticky at the top of this board is the number to contact about food allergies. They can give you a list of foods and ingredients so you will know what is safe and not safe. Good luck on your trippixiedust: .

My concern for Beaches and Cream would be that it is a very busy place. If you are planning on eating there, I am not sure how well they would be able to avoid contamination.
Hopefully someone who has eaten there with a peanut allergy will be able to give a better idea.

My ds is also allergic to peanuts and milk. We ate there and they did a very good job. They keep tofutti and rice dream in back. I am remembering once they took our order someone came from the back and spoke to us. This was 2 years ago though. I do not remember any issues and left happy about how accommodating they are with food allergies.

I have a peanut allergy, but it is ingestion only as well, so I don't have to be as careful as someone with an inhalation allergy. I think you could do it, but I would go during a slower time, and ask to speak to a manager right away. You could also call in advance and talk to a manager to see what they could do to accommodate you. I also stayed away from any types of shakes/floats as shared blenders make me nervous. But a sundae is doable, as would be a meal. However, Sue makes a good point that things move fast there, plus it's a small place, so they risk of contamination is higher than at other places, where they don't use a lot of peanut products.

For us, we consider ice cream parlors in general too risky. Peanut allergies are so dangerous and even the slightest trace can cause a reaction. The only place we plan to get ice cream is the Dole Whip place at MK.

Also, I want to share with what I found on the Nestle site about Itzakadoozies - they have a "shared lines" warning. Here's the link:

There are items that concern me. Natural and artificial flavours does not say where they come from. I would try one as I am only highly sensitve to gluten.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guar_bean
Guar gum comes from the guar bean which is a legume and um aren't peanuts legumes.

Karaya gum comes from Sterculia urens. Not sure what that tree is related to if any of the common allergens.

Tartrazine (otherwise known as E number E102 or FD&C Yellow 5 or C.I. 19140) is a synthetic lemon yellow azo dye used as a food coloring.

Thumbs DOWN to Nestle! All of the items on the site have a shared line warning. The itzakadoozies were safe at one time.:confused3

It seems strange that after all this time Itzakadoozies are unsafe. I noticed that you were on the Nestle Canada site. You may want to check the US site and, more importantly, find out which facility produces the Itzakadoozies sold in the parks. Often, a manufacturer produces the consumer version in one facility and the commercially sold version in a different one.

Thanks for the heads up.

You make a good point, DVCDawn - I didn't notice that it was the Canadian site. I'm sorry about that. I called Nestle USA, and I was advised to check the label for a warning.

Thanks for the replies. I will speak to the manager there about my concerns before we eat. We generally stay away from shakes, and will usually only have soft serve ice cream out. We've been very careful and he has not had any reactions in 7 years (since his diagnosis).

In response to the Nestle thread - It is annoying when something has been safe for a long time then all of a sudden it has a peanut warning on it. I personally think it's a CYA situation.

I agree that we need to check and see where the Itsakadoozie's are made - the ones sold at the parks could be make entirely elsewhere under different conditions. There are often differences between Canadian and US products from the same company.

The Itskadoozie's were my PA son's favorite dessert so I'm sure they weren't labeled that way at least through March '08 - we didn't have one in Sept. '08. They were definitely considered safe by Brenda Bennett and the chefs at restaurants who would bring one in for him for a dessert if needed.

I hope that hasn't changed.
