Planning a small trip in February/March staying in our rv at the fort my dates are super flexible, but I thought this was off peak time or at least not prime time (not over the president's day weekend) so I'm confused by the pricing? any suggestions as to when is off peak? We can pretty much go anytime from the end of January to April. It affects the pricing of our spot by 50% so it is significant.

typically the end of January (after MLK weekend) into the first week or 2 of February (just prior to President's Weekend) is "value" season and the best rates you'll get. For some reason the end of Feb is always significantly more expensive.

Jan. is fairly affordable as long as you stay away from Marathon Weekend (1/9-1/11/14). The early part of Feb is also part of value season. Feb. 13 begins peak season. Mid-Feb.thru Apr. is considered to be spring break in 2014. Easter is at the end of April (4/13-4/20/14). Value season does not resume until Sept.1-Oct 5.

Many schools in northeast have vacation for all of presidents week in february, not just the Monday, so that whole week is a peak time, not just the weekend. Also, many schools (particularly near new orleans), have off the week leading up to mardi gras, which is first week of march next year, so very end of feb is also peak season. So to answer your question, off peak is feb prior to Friday before presidents day weekend starts, and then any "stub" period between the end of presidents week and the beginning of mardi gras week (which I think is approx half a week next year). Also, right around then (ie, jan/feb), various school or other tour groups will go then due to low rates, so a particular resort may be at peak type capacity.

Ok, makes sense now, thanks! Travelling with my folks (in their own spot) so the $300 a night for two spots is a lot more than the $180 a night we will pay for value season. Trying for an under $2k 6-7 day trip for the 7 of us with renting golf cars, mostly eating in, parks just a couple days and most of our tickets are old non expires.
