PayPal & Ebay Question HELP!!

Ok, I'm new to Ebay and was inspired by the other string I see on this board with 4,000 messages on it!

I have a couple "Privacy" questions about Ebay and Paypal....if anyone could help me, I would greatly appreciate it.

My concern is I do not want people to have my full name and address on Ebay. Is there a way to keep this info private? When I listed an item, it said that my address/name would not be revealed until the end of the auction to the winning bidder. Is that because I chose to accept money orders? If I chose Paypal ONLY, will they still be able to access my name/address?

My second question is regarding Paypal. I'm sooo confused over that whole service. Should I NOT take credit cards on my auctions and only accept bank transfers? I noticed a lot of the auctions on Ebay say that in the description. When someone pays me via Paypal, what information will they have access to? My email address or my ebay user ID or both? How about my snail mail address that I had to give them?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can explain this more to me. I'm ready to start selling, but it's a little confusing to me still.

Yes, that is why. How else would they send you the money order.
I don't take credit cards, I dont want to pay the fee. I only accept bank transfers.

Pay pal should be able to give you all the information you need in the FAQ's. When you sell something and send it, they are going to have your address, btw. I would assume you would put a return address on the package.

You have to give eBay your contact info. Once you have done that, anyone who has won one of you auctions can request your contact info. They will get, when they do that, your name, city, state, and phone number. I use a cell phone number, which does lessen the chance of them finding my actual address, since at this time, it's not on any of the reverse lists (where they put in a phone number and find my address). The address I use for eBay, is a PO box number. Paypal will have your address, if you decide to become verified. If you don't people may decide not to accept Paypal from you, since it will show an unconfirmed address.

Many many people on ebay set up a PO Box for this reason. Also some people go so far as to open a sepecial bank account to link to Paypal. It will not keep your personal information any more secret, but it is safer, I guess.
As for Paypal cc payments, the Paypal fee is higher. I take cc payments, but some do not. I know I will not bid if I can't pay by cc . I just like the extra protection my cc offers.

this stuffs great.......tho be careful....

I dont really have a problem with giving my info out on internet.. cuz if there going to get it they probably already have.. and most identity theft is local anyway...besides i have nothing to steal.. im broke.

you have to give ebay your info.. thats how you pay them..same with paypal... its inevitable..


but be careful.. as a buyer only buy from those with a set shipping cost....dont just asume there going to be fair with shipping cuz you won the item...( 2 dollar book she tried to make me pay 12 shipping when i know even with packaging and fees it only cost 5.00). and as a seller please keep records, find some one with a scanner to scan shipping reciepts and all paper documentation....it will save you hassles and keep clear shipping terms, i can only ship on thursday friday and just got my first neutral feedback do to buyer not reading shipping terms... ( paid on a fri after 7pm, and was mad it shipped the next friday...)

just be careful and stick to your guns, theres wonderful people out there but theres also a lot of "Petes" out there too.
