My dad, fiance, and I are trying to work on the planning of financial end of it and wanted some input from previous Dis brides.

Is there a specific amount or percent you need to put down on the day you book your date, and can you do a payment arrangement for whatever is left over? Or how does that work?
 
i believe wishes is 2K down and then it all has to be paid like 90 days prior? and i didn't realize, but am glad i know, about 1K OVER is factored in as sort of a deposit? you will get that back less any "overages" after the ceremony.
 
For Wishes it's 2k down deposit ($1k is applied to the minimum, $1k is held and refunded to you after the wedding), the remaining minimum deposit, in our case $11k, is due three months before the wedding. The remaining estimated balance is due 30 days prior.
 
How would there be a balance at 30 days prior? Would it be if changes were made in that timeframe?
 

The balance would be for anything over the minimum expenditure. It could be for anything you added. For us, with our guest count we will pretty much meet the minimum with food and beverage alone. So the extra would be for the WP, decor, entertainment, etc.
