Online reviews are pretty bad but Payless' prices are less than half of the in terminal companies. Has anyone used them lately?

I have used them numerous times and actually had no problems.
But I would not be surprised if they profile their customers for example (horrid example) try to take advantage of a single mother with kids in tow when pushing extra insurance and coverage.

They are off site but they are on the way to Disney.

Their shuttle takes you (other rental cars can follow) out the north exit (436; Semoran) and left at the first light (Frontage). Under a mile is their office and also a 528 (Beach Line) toll booth you pass free to the side of. Leaving their office be very careful not to go out the wrong way where fingers in the road rip the tires. Turn right (west) instead of their suggested left. Less than a mile is next light (Conway) where you take two quick lefts to get on 528 westbound. Watch carefully for an "exit ramp" to pay the toll in cash. Then on to the end of 528 and take I-4 west (southwest) to get to Disney.

Returning to airport, take I-4 East (northeast) and change to 528 East. Again, on 528, use the "exit ramp" to pay the toll. Get off at exit 9 (Tradeport). Left (north) and cross under. Nice cheap gas station on the left. After getting receipt and with the gas station at your left and possibly rounding a corner to face north again, get into middle lane. Required right (east) onto McCoy. Payless is less than a mile on the left. (Other rental cars can continue less than a mile to next light (436); turn right to enter airport.)

The only problem I have ever had with them is that they left us with an empty gas tank and we noticed after driving away. We called them and they noted it so we wouldn't be charged. I also do not like the fact we have to take a shuttle, but it is close to MCO. They have also upgraded us for a small charge a couple of times which we liked. I would use them again.

Continuing west on Frontage Rd. (turn right out of Payless' lot) at end take one left (south) onto Conway. Two blocks down on the right is the cheap gas station.

To Disney, turn left out of the gas station and get into rightmost lane facing north. (Another left turn may be needed depending on which gas station exit you used). Now you can turn right onto the cloverleaf for 528 (Beach Line) west.

Sometimes if you decline an upgrade they (any car rental company) point out first, they will give you the upgraded car anyway at no extra charge.

I have used them a couple of times myself and if you're on a shoestring budget and they are fine. I just prefer the convenience of being able to walk out (no shuttle) and pick my own car. Just work the codes and coupons and you can typically get one of the on-site places for around the same money as Payless. That being said, if they were significantly cheaper I'd rent from them again. They are super high pressure on the insurance just be firm and say no.

My brother used them.. they spent half an hour trying to scare him into buying insurance and that was after a half hour wait in line while they did that to the guy in front of them

(Things like "if a hurricane comes you won't be covered" which might have been a bigger threat if there was a named storm anywhere out there, but the chances of one developing and hitting Orlando over a long weekend.. SLIM! :LOL! )

OCC makes a good point, the lines are usually long and very slow moving. Since Alamo put in the kiosks I haven't used anyone else.

Thanks all. I've decided to just use DME to the SSR and rent from Dollar at the Wyndham. Their rate was even better than Payless.

We are currently looking at renting a car for 5 days and the price difference between Payless and others at the airport is huge ($205 vs $370).

So if rates don't change between now and the trip, I will have to deal with the hassle of using their shuttle service.

A question for all you using the shuttle service. Our flight is scheduled to arrive in Orlando at 11:12 PM. How long does it take to get the shuttle to come and drive to Payless? They close at 1AM.
