Paying package off with debit card

Has anyone used their debit card to pay off their package? I've searched the boards and can't find this out. I was going to use my Disney Visa but if we cancel I don't want all that money being credited back to a credit card. I'm paying for 5 people in 2 rooms at the BWI so it's a large amount. I've always used a credit card but we had to cancel a r/o reservation 2 weeks before we were to go several years ago. My husband was in a serious accident. Disney gave us all of our money back but we had only paid a small amount so it was no big deal. So now I'm leery of using the cc. Do they put an extra hold on the debit card or do they charge just the amount due? Thanks!

I use my debit card for the majority of my Disney World package payments and have never had a problem....even when paying off the balance. The only thing that you may want to do is advise your bank that you will be making a large payment(s) to Disney with your card.

One thing I would caution when you go to pay it off is the daily limit your bank allows. My bank caps me at a certain amount per day for debit transactions, so if you are paying off your entire balance in one shot, you could get declined. I think every bank is different though.

I have heard that it can take 10+ days to get your money back if you need to cancel and be refunded. Something else to consider if you would need that cash right away.

My bank does this too... I tried paying the entire amount using my debit card and the bank declined it.

This happened with my (old) bank several years ago, that's how I learned I had a daily limit on my debit card (the hard way!). My current bank does not have a daily limit.

I don't use credit cards anymore, and have used debit cards only to pay for all our trips over the last decade with no problems (other than the maxed out daily limit mentioned above).

I never use credit cards to pay for trips (why pay interest on a vacation??). I have always only used my debit card for all my payments. But then again I usually make smaller payments monthly once I decide on my vacation and I like to have it paid off way before the final payment due date.

You can get approval from your bank or credit union for a higher limit for situations like this.

Thanks for that info I didn't know that! I will contact my bank as it will be a large payment. I want to pay it all at once but I want to wait until close to the time it is due. I am leery of paying it early as I know what a hassle it was when we had to cancel the other trip.

Could you s
use your disney visa, then turn around and pay the disney visa off with your debit card a day or 2 later. I would think the rewards on that "purchase" would be significant spending money at the parks! Just my 2 cents! But I also use my disney visa for everything then pay it off in full each month.
