we are going to disney 9/22-9/29 we were able to get free dining this gives us 7 sit down meals we are eating at chef mickeys dinner, crystal palace lunch, 1900 park fair breakfast, sci fi dinner, t rex dinner, akershus lunch, and ohana dinner, should we pay for royal table being so it takes 2 credits or pay something else oop?

Not sure when this takes place in your trip but I would use up all my credits and pay OOP for my last meal. You never know if you will cancel a meal. Eating on the DP can be filling.

Check the menu's and see what your lowest price option is -- or one where you feel like you may want to order off the appetizer list instead, or maybe one where you don't feel like you'd be inclined to want dessert too. Esp. if it's in a park where you want to go eat cupcakes or something somewhere else.

Using Allears.net as a reference (for one adult):
Chef Mickey Dinner: $41.53
Crystal Palace Lunch: $26.62
1900 PF Breakfast: $22.36
Sci Fi Dinner: $22.90 - $38.34
T-Rex Dinner: $25.53 - $46.86
Akershus Lunch: $37.27
'Ohana Dinner: $35.14
CRT: $52.07(B), $55.81(L), $65.74(D)
=> CRT cost per credit is $26.03(B), $27.91(L), and $32.87(D).

I use $32.50 as the average "value" of DDP TS credit (this assumes $15 for the CS credit, $4 for the snack credit, and the 2012 DDP cost of $51.50). So, to be a good use of TS credit, the post-tax meal cost needs to be $32.50 (or a pre-tax meal cost of $30.52).

So, given this breakpoint, I would say that Crystal Palace Lunch and 1900 PF breakfast are not economical uses of TS credits, nor would Sci Fi or T-Rex depending on what you ordered. T-Rex is a little less likely to be an issue because there are more higher priced items than at Sci Fi. My guess is that it will come down to Sci Fi or Crystal Palace.

Determining which meals to pay OOP would also depend on what meal you're planning at CRT.

I would essentially look at the Sci Fi menu and see what you would order. Then sum up the cost of the meal (I use $3 as an estimate for the drink), and then factor in tax and tip. I would then compare that with the Crystal Palace lunch (remember to add in tip here as well). Then compare that with the cost of your CRT meal (CRT's gratuity is already included). Then you can decide what meal(s) to pay OOP.

We r eating lunch in the castle, 4 adults which 2 r 10 12 years old and 1 child

Would your 10 year old or even your 12 year old happen to be light or picky eaters that would prefer to order off the kid's menu or even smaller (cheaper) menu options like burgers or sandwiches/salads? If so, then you can pay OOP for their off the menu choices at T-Rex and Sci-Fi and save their adult dining credits for a fixed price meal at your other planned eateries.

You can pay with a combination of cash and table service credits. So, if you look up the menu items from Allears.net, you can get a sense of what the meal prices are. Then, Pay for the least expensive meals OOP, and charge the rest to your TS credits. You can also split the difference with CRT by paying half OOP and charging the rest to your TS credits, then pay OOP for Sci-Fi, since that most likely will be the cheapest dinner (and will give you half the credits you need for CRT). Have fun on your trip!!!

When I figured out our cost for CRT, it was going to be almost $200 for the 4 of us with their set price. We definitely will not pay for that one out OOP. We are going to pay for a few breakfasts and/or lunches OOP so we can have a few signature/character meals. We can eat breakfast at the hotel for about $20 - $25 for all of us together. . . .

allears has these prices posted for CRT.
Adult price range: $55.81-$60.68; Child (ages 3-9) price range: $34.71-$38.25

so even at two credits each, I'd rather pay for a breakfast OOP than this meal.

Honestly when we have the DDP I can't imagine paying OOP for anything - I think I would explode. I am not a petite woman and my whole family (dh and I plus ds10 and dd8 - are all normal to large-ish eaters) - And I am stuffed almost the entire time at WDW on the DDP.

For this reason when we are there for 7 or 8 nights we almost always schedule at least one 2 credit meal. THat way there is at least an extra day thrown in there without a HUGE TS meal. We share lots of CS meals and have cereal or cinnamon rolls from Main St Bakery in our room for breakfasts so we always have enough to get us through an extra day with no TS credits used and not having to pay OOP for any 'extra' CS meals either.

Just a suggestion...If you're not dead set on all your other TS meals I would cancel one of them (or just keep the ressie and see if you, too, are too stuffed to enjoy the one at the end of your trip - and cancel it there) - and then just use credits to pay for your castle meal.

IMO would be best to use 2 TS for Royal Table and pay OOP for Sci Fi and orT Rex has some decent prices as well. but just doing the MYWD is way more than enough for us and my DBK is a huge eater. we do lot of the character meals and do several steak places that are 1 TS but then we also have all the CS and so many choices there.

Thanks for all the advice!!! I wanted to cut one off but the kids and hubby r saying no way lol
