Paying OOP for meals, question.

This is our first trip we will be taking not using the DDP. I am attempting to work out our meal budget and had a dumb question. I'm not a big eater, especially for lunch and dinner. If we are eating at a CS, it's fine if I order a kids meal occasionally, right? We will split a couple regular CS meals (Cosmic Ray's combo) too, but honestly PBJ and carrot sticks sound fine for me once or twice.

DH and I will probably split a couple TS meals (50s PTC) but we will splurge at Narcoossee's and HDDR which is our new fun favorite.

It sounds like you'll eat about as much as my hubby and I did in January. We weren't smart enough to get the TiW card so we just paid OOP for everything. After ALL of our meals, drinks and souvenirs....we spent less than the DDP would have cost us!!! We will never do DDP again! I can't remember the exact amount we spent...but it was way less than the DDP price alone.

The way I figure it, the desserts were what made the DDP worth it, on paper. But we aren't big dessert eaters, especially after a big meal. So for us a cupcake or gelatto here and there is fine. Heck, a smoothie from Auntie Gravity's would suit us both just fine for lunch. I think this will work out just fine. Thanks!

Yes, you can order a kids meal at any CS. Just an FYI, they do have more than just PB&J too.

One other lite option, you can also share some apps at a TS for about the same cost of a QS. Check it out!

Ooh, I didn't think about sharing apps, thank you. I was just using PBJ as an example because I expected someone might 'remind me' that the kids menus are a bit limited . Flame Tree's looks perfect though, chicken leg, yum!!!

Sharing a CS meal will often give you and your DH more options because you can order adult portions.

My wife have been sharing meals for years. When we dine at California Grill for example we will split a flatbread then I will order sushi while my wife has a salad. We will next split an entree. We have been doing this for years since my wife lost over 100lbs on WW.

Whats the TiW card?

Tables in Wonderland. The short explanation is that it's a 20% discount card valid mostly for table service and VERY limited counter service.

Eligible persons must have an annual pass or be a Florida resident. If you have an AP, it costs $75; $100 for Florida residents who don't have the AP. It's been 13 months from date of purchase for as long as I remember.

A lot of people don't eat the way that DDP is set up, so TiW could be a better way to go. If you spend $375 - $500 annually on meals, the card is for you. If you don't spend that much, it may not be a deal for you.

However, if you DO have DDP, but want to add appetizers or wine to your DDP meal, you can still pay for those items with your TiW card.

We got our TiW card in June for our Anniversary trip and have already spent $125. It doesn't expire until July of 2012, so I think we'll break even. We're going back in September for 7 days!!!

Just to clarify, DVC members cannot buy the card. Only annual passholders and/or Florida residents.

Yes - the TIW membership is $75 for annual passholders, and $100 for Florida residents who are not annual passholders. DVC members are ineligible unless they are annual passholders and/or Florida residents. but DVC members do get a pretty good discount on the annual pass - enough to pay for a TIW membership.

I've ordered from the kids menu at CS. It's not a bad way to save on calories as well as money.

i've done this also on one of our trips and it worked out great! plenty of food! i had some really good food too. we might be doing this again if they don't come out with FD soon!
