Paying off Room only???

If I make a room only reservation, can I pay it off a little at a time, or can I only put down a deposit and the rest upon arrival???

And what happens if I pay it off before and a code comes out, do they just credit me the difference or put toward package???

Yes, you can pay it off a little at a time. Some CM's at CRO seem to tell you otherwise, but rest assured, they are wrong.

If a code comes out and you can apply it, you will just get refunded to your credit card.

Yes, you can pay it off over time. We've done this before. And when we did have a discout code applied later, we had a credit on our account so when we charged something back to the room, it was already paid for. It wasn't a huge amount (something like $63) but that worked out the best for us.

I think I have read some posts here that there can be a problem paying off a room only reservation, if you make the reservation online. They have stated that they were unable to make any more payments on the reservation. I have a room only reservation for 2009 and have made 2 payments in addition to the original deposit.

Although many here like to think that the CMs at DRC are always wrong, in this case YOU are wrong. Paying for a room only reservation in advance is dependent on HOW the reservation was originally booked. If the OP calls and books their room only reservation over the phone they are permitted to make additional payments prior to checkin although it is not really encouraged. However, if they book a room only reservation ONLINE, only the required 1st night deposit can be paid in advance.

And as far as a code coming out and switching to a package, any money that is paid by credit card for the room only reservation will be refunded to the credit card and completely separate payments must be made for the package reservation. This means that if a code comes out and is applied within 45 days of your arrival date you will need to make full payment for the package at the time you book it.

If you have any thoughts of switching from the room only reservation to a package I strongly encourage you to simply pay the required deposit as it can take your bank quite a while to apply the credit back to your account for the room only refund. I'd much rather be waiting for 1 night deposit to be credited than the entire room balance.

In my case, which I posted about a few weeks ago, I got a rude CM on the phone who said she couldn't transfer my reservation over (wrong) and couldn't take any payments (wrong - I made my reservation on the phone.) I said "thanks for your help", hung up, got someone who knew what she was talking about, switched my reservation and made a payment.
