Every trip I have taken to WDW I have always booked airfare through Disney, added it to my trip, and paid it online at a later date. Now I can no longer do that and airfare needs to be paid at the time of purchase (about $2800). I am not sure if I am booking with Disney or the airline itself or what but I have a question about the best way to pay. There are 5 of us going (3 kids ages 15, 12, and 9) My DH and I have decided that we do not want to use a CC for the trip at all. I have a vacation saving account attached to our checking and when the time comes I can transfer that amount to the checking and use our debit card. Each debit card has a daily limit of 2000 (so 4000 between the 2). We can ask for a 1 time daily limit but that can take up to 48 hours and I don't want to risk losing a cheaper price by waiting. I am just not sure what to do.
Does Disney take multiple cards at time of purchase?
Should I book outside WDW travel and split our party up..hoping we are on the same flight?
Go down to the airport itself and buy them there?
Thanks for all the help

I believe that you are booking with the airline itself. If I were you I would check online today to see if there are better prices that you can get, and whichever is better book it. It's probably going to get more expensive the longer you wait.

I do believe Disney will split it up on 2 cards if you ask them too, but just call and ask and they'll be more than happy to answer your questions :)

Do you have a credit card with a big enough limit that you could pay the airfare on the credit card? If so, this is exactly the sort of situation where the credit card can be used wisely as a smart tool. Pay the airfare with the credit card, and simply pay the balance off as soon as the bill comes, prior to the due date. If you don't carry a balance on the card and pay it in full before the due date, it isn't going to cost you any interest.

I have alerted my bank to a large debit card purchase before and it was allowed pretty quickly. They are probably just saying 48 hours to cover themselves. I would call them, explain that you need it done ASAP, give it a couple of hours and then try to purchase.

I've always heard that it was more expensive to book airfare with Disney travel - it is convenient.

you can check http://www.kayak.com/ kayak for a look at airfares - it does not include Southwest Airlines - - go to their website if its an option (often we have to drive in the night before, there are hotels that will let us park our car for a week and we sleep there, then take their shuttle to the airport)

as far as using 2 debit cards - we also do not use a credit card, only debit -so it can be done - but you do need to alert the bank - and Disney is very accommodating, just call and tell them what you need

It can actually be cheaper to book thru Disney sometimes because they get blocks of seats on flights in and out of MCO on the carriers they use. Even when the cheaper seats are already booked on the airline's website, there can be some left in Disney's block. It's not always the case, so it's a good idea to check websites like Kayak as well.

Just contact your bank about using the debit card for a larger purchase. Most banks will waive the limit for a one-time purchase if they know about it ahead of time.

Thanks to everyone that replied. My first call will be to Disney to see if I can book with 2 cards. As far as Disney being more expensive...I know this is true for many but not for our town. It is usually the same or less. We do not have a Southwest or any other lower priced airline. We have to go with Delta or UA and tickets are usually 500pp or more.
