Paying for a cash room with points?

Have you logged in to the website and verified your points? That seems to. E the main concern when the front desk messes with a points reservation.
Yes. we had the exact # of points available in our account. In fact we had to buy a few one time use points to cover the reservation in case the waitlist came thru. So there was no way for us to be overcharged.

I'd say you have been very lucky for them to do this for you and glad it worked out. It is not supposed to be done this way. The two resorts you mention are large resorts so maybe, given the size and rooms that are typically available, it is easier to accomplish. But, you were prepared to pay cash had it not worked and glad you were able to stay in the same room.
 
There are times, though, that the front desk cancels a point reservation to redo it, and then those points go into holding status. The front desk does not have access to those points, so they then borrow from your next use year. You then have to go through Member Services to try to straighten everything out.

As others have said, glad it worked out for you. That does not mean that it would work again for the next member wanting to do the same thing.
