Over in the "cow" thread I learned you can pay your annual dues monthly. I assumed that when you did this you were paying before hand - for example you would pay your 2008 dues during 2007. I was never really interested in doing this because I didn't like the idea of DVC holding my money. But according to the folks posting in that thread, you're actually paying for your dues after the fact. You make monthly payments in 2008 to pay the dues due in January 2008.

All of a sudden, I'm very interested in doing this. So what all is involved in setting this up? Is it as easy as just calling up MS and saying I want to pay my 2008 Annual Dues monthly? I would assume they would need a voided check or something? Are there any fees for doing this? I'm very interested in getting this setup for my January dues.

It never fails to amaze me the great information you can find on these message boards.

Just call MS and select the "Member Accounting" option from the voice menu. They will walk you thru the process.

There is no charge to use the auto-debit service so it's just like taking your maintenance fees and dividing into 12 equal payments (with no service charge). If there is any under/over charge due to the estimated property taxes, they will be settled up with the first payment next January.

They will need your bank routing information but they can describe the process when you call to set up the service.

It took me a few years to realize this was offered, but with no extra charges to make the payments it was an easy, obvious choice for us.

Thanks loads Doc. I wish I had known this a couple of years ago. That's what you get for assuming things.

You will be given a choice of the 1st or 15th of the month for your debits. However, no matter which you choose, the January payment is always delayed until the 15th. The January payment will also be a different amount from the rest of the year, as the make any adjustments (overages or shortages) from the previous years estimates in the January payment.

Great info. Was wondering about this the other day.

Thanks guys,
Coach

Can we call now to set up the process, or do we have to wait until the dues come out?

Glad I could help. After reading your post I was going to switch to paying them all off in January.

Set it up now, so it will be all ready to go at dues time.

I just called Member Accounting...they can't do this over the phone. They need to mail the form out and I must send back with voided check. Anyway to get this form online?

I don't think so. Years ago, when I set it up, they faxed me the form, but I had to mail it back with a voided check.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE paying dues monthly! With 1000 points, January was a dreary month, but since I discovered I could set it up monthly with direct debit, life has smoothed out!

Very convienant :-)

The only real advantage to paying in a lump sum is the ability to use a credit card and earn "reward points". Of course, this assumes you can pay the credit card off when it is due and thus not pay interest on an unpaid balance.

Being a somewhat paranoid person, I also prefer not to give anyone else access to my checking account unless it is absolutely necessary (or they bribe me with a significant discount). :)

We have almost every account we have, including our DVC dues set up on electronic funds transfer. That way I don't even have to think about doing anything online. It just happens. LOVE that! :thumbsup2 We were given the option to fill out the paperwork last winter when we bought so we just returned a voided check with our contract papers!

I pay my dues monthly and I was interested in paying them yearly so I could pay them with our D-Visa.

Well when Member Accounting explained to me that I would have to pay the rest of the year off in full now and then all of next years dues would be due in Full in January, I quickly changed my mind!:rotfl:

I also found out, that I can make extra dues payments on the DVC parasite, I mean website,:goodvibes whenever I want.
I used a Visa giftcard I got off coke rewards and applied it to my dues online
just last month, so at least that feature works.

So I will keep my monthly schedule and make lump sum payments every quarter online with my CC for the rewards.

I feel like Hannah Montana, I get the best of both worlds! LOL!!

speaking of monthly dues. Is anyone currently trying to close now and got charged with all of 2008 MF upfront in the closing costs? has anyone had success in changing it to monthly before closing?

thanks,
mike

I called today and all I had to do was write my account number/numbers on a sheet of paper, what I wanted done, (monthly pay dues) that I wanted the 1st or the 15th as pay dates and a copy of my check, sign and date and fax to them. Fast and easy.

I bought a resale contract last December and had to pay the dues in with the closing costs too.

If you purchase from Disney you can set up monthly as part of the transcation. If you purchase resale, all dues deemed to be owed must be paid at closing. One reason is that those are actually dues deemed owed by the seller (regardless of what you agree to as to who will actually pay them at closing) and the seller's entire debt must be cleared as part of the closing. Dues for the next year are decided in early December and are actually deemed owed in early December (even though the member has until January to pay if not on monthly withdrawal). Thus, if you close on a resale in December, the seller will be deemed to owe all dues for the next year and they must be paid at closing.

I just called back again today, and now got the same information as you! So I am doing this all today, faxing over. Not waiting for a form. Why is it I have to keep calling back to get the correct information? Is very frustrating, thanks for your post! :goodvibes

Hi, I'm a DVC member from the UK and I must say that I envy you guys the choice of paying in one lump sum or monthly. We DVCers in the UK are not given the choice - we have to pay in a lump sum in January, just after Christmas :sad2: I wish DVC would help by setting up a method that would help us to pay monthly
