In this instance the person most likely was NOT looking to post a new thread on the topic or even searching for more information about the topic but found the thread from "suggested threads" at the bottom of the page.

Also the suggestion to reuse an existing thread is there when starting a new thread, not adding a reply post to a thread.

Honestly I assume so you can get your answers quicker. But if the threads that have been posted are more than a year old the information is likely not relevant anymore. A bumped thread is likely to get less attention than a new thread, so posting a new thread is best.

It’s for sure not a rule. If it was, you wouldn’t be able to proceed with a new thread, which you certainly can. I’ve also seen plenty of zombie threads closed by moderators with the suggestion to start a new thread.

I have no desire to go 10 rounds on this, tvguy, because I know this is one of your hot button topics, like landlines.

But generally speaking, old threads get bumped up by ‘new posters’, the vast majority of which are seemingly bots or spammers.

If this is not true, I’ll wait for the poster who bumped this up to come back and dispute it.

Disboards guidelines. 13 guidelines. Not 1 of them prohibits starting new threads or demands you post on a suggested thread.
