Paying cash for room charges...

I'd like to put as little of our dailey expenses as possible on a credit card but don't want to carry around alot of cash in the parks. When I check in at the resort, I know that I have to register a credit card to be able to charge to the room but can I also "pre-pay" the room charges with some cash up front??

They only charge your card when you reach the resort limit. So every couple of days we would go and get a copy of our bill and pay off the balance with cash. You could prepay with cash but we liked checking the bill to make sure that everything was correct so when we left early the last morning everything was OK.

You can put cash down or disney dollars if you wanted to. We usually put the disney dollars down at check in and once those run out they bill the room and then charge our cc when we check out.

you can just put cash down for room charges, I did this on my last trip, as I didn't have a credit card, and didn't want to use my debit card, one of the CM's tried to tell me that I couldn't, but I knew from here that I could, so she went and got someone to help her and they were able to help, so if they tell you they can't just have them get someone else to help as I know you can, you don't have to put down the credit card if you don't want, but I would guess that you can put the credit card and cash down, or just put the credit card down and keep the cash in the safe and come down every night or something and pay the balance.

What are Disney Dollars? How do you go about getting them?

they are money put out by Disney, they have characters on them and can be used exclusively at WDW ( I am guessing DL too)

you can get them at your local Disney store.

You shouldn't have a problem, I always send a few checks ahead of time to pre-pay the room balance and then some before we arrive. We really don't like to get back from vacation to a big cc'd bill! I then use the disney room charge for my purchases and meals - its way to convenient. A day or so before we check out I then settle up with the front desk paying cash to bring the balance back to zero. The last day or two does go on the charge card but I have the cash put aside to pay the bill- plus I get a few AA miles for those last few days!

If you really don't want any $$ on your card then just do a "traditional check out" rather than the express and the CM will know exactly how much you owe. You can then just pay cash rather than have them chard the credit card.

Like tjmw2727 said, I'd send a check before hand to give your account a "plus" balance. We did this our first trip, and it was nice not to have a big bill at the end. We didn't do this our last time and had a big bill at the end.

We'll have our next trip paid before leaving with a nice "plus" balance waiting for us since I liked that option much better.
