I will be going away over night and I have a friends daughter who is about 25ish staying in my house with my dogs. I have no idea what to pay her. She will need to feed them around 5 or 6 Saturday evening and let them out in the back yard. She will sleep here and then feed them again Sunday morning and let them out a few times Sunday evening and then feed them again Sunday night. And then she can go because we will be home late Sunday. There are 2 dogs, 6 yrs and 6 months old. What do you think is a fair price? I am hoping this works out because I have a few weekends over the summer that I will be away and a week in WDW in the Fall.

Check a site like dogvacay.com and see what others in your area are charging. I can't see paying more than $50 for one night of sitting, especially if you are providing her food, but expectations probably vary by location.

I'm not sure but we paid our teenage neighbor $40 for Friday evening-Sunday afternoon last summer. She didn't sleep/eat here but she also didn't have to drive here because she lives right next door. I didn't expect her to walk him, just let him in and out, play with him a little and feed him.

It probably depends on where you live but I think $40-$50 a night is a good price. It should probably be around what it would cost to kennel them at least, since having a private person in your home is a greater service than that. Our kennel charges $30 a night for the first dog, and we typically pay our house sitter $40/nt for one dog.

Have you asked her if she has a number in mind? This is what we did when we started using our neighbor as a babysitter. She gave me a number, and I actually upped it a little because I felt it wasn't adequate. Knowing her idea was helpful though. I think we both felt good about the hourly rate we decided on.

OMG! It really must depend where you live, our kennel fees are $15. That would be the most I would pay:)

The least expensive reputable kennel in my area is $20/night, I would actually pay someone in my home the same or less since I feel like in most situations you get more out of the kennel since they are played with often and have other dogs around, ect.

It depends on how long the overall sitting will last but I usually pay $20 to $25 per day

Yikes! I paid a teen $10 a day to check on the frog, and bring in the mail.
Next time give me a call. LOL That probably breaks down to 15 minutes a day and $40 an hour. That's just how I calculate stuff:laughing:

I had a dog sitter for over 10 years and paid her $25 a day. She would stay/sleep at our house, pick up mail and if she had to, put out the garbage cans and bring them back in. My dog was very low maintenance. She would dog sit for many people but she always said our dog was the nicest/easiest.

Our kennel was $20/ dog/ day. So to sent our labradors it was $40 per day. They were much happier at the kennel as it was an Fully fenced acreage they got to run all day, instead of somebody coming in a couple of times a day to feed, play and let them out.

I pay our pet sitter 25-30.00 at day and it is worth it to us. Sometimes he will stay at our house and sometimes we will come and go. We try to never leave her more than four hours and he makes sure that does not happen. He stays and plays with her and takes her for rides in the car, and will turn the TV on and off for her and fix her meals and puts her to bed at night. Yes, she is sooo spoiled. We leave snacks and drinks in the frig for him. Many times our collage age son is available and he does it for nothing...well for collage tuition!

our kennel here (in a city in the north east) charges $45 for 24 hour period. they actually have someone present over night and the dogs are not crated.
I dog sit and charge $15 for each visit which includes a walk, food & water and the owner usually leaves me a tip which is not expected but always appreciated.
