I am fairly new to Ebay...and I DO NOT have a Pay Pal account. The few things I have bought have been through personal check. Is the email I got (pasted below) a scam? It sounds really suspicious to me...especially since like I said, I don't have a PayPal account.

Yep sounds like a scam. You can forward it to spoof@paypal.com to report it to them. :)

Darn...I acted too fast and deleted it because it freaked me out! Thanks for the info for the future though!

You'll get Spoof mail from paypal and ebay scammers. Do Not ever give out any info through emails with links to so called problems with accounts. Always go direct to the Ebay.com site or Paypal.com site .

They got me 4 years ago and almost got $1000.00 2 days before Xmas. luckily I caught it before the weekend came or they might have gotten away with my funds. When I called Paypal ,the customer service person said that this person got 100 people so far with this scam. Thats $100,000 right there, who knows how many more they didnt catch yet!

I think I read that PayPal will always address you by name in their e-mails too. Just another way to tell if it's real!

Same thing happened to me last week. I sent a copy of the email to Paypal and they thanked me for letting them know about this scam.

You are going to get more of these "fishing" emails. The one I get alot is from "ebay" telling me somebody has changed my password.

As a general rule, never go into any account from a link you receive in an email. Any email suggesting you do so if probably a scam. If you get an email suggesting there is a problem/change/whatever with your account, log into your account the normal way and check.

Let's see... it refers to you as a Paypal member, but you are not a Paypal member, and you're wondering if it's a scam? :rotfl:

You'll get a bunch saying they're from Ebay as well. I usually just delete them, I've reported tons of them in the past.

Any email that is from paypal or ebay will call you by name. They will never use the "dear valued ebay/paypal user" greeting. Also I noticed that if it indeed comes from ebay it will be in your messages section on ebay. I have gotten a lot of them claiming to be from ebay. They are getting better at looking legit. Some have even claimed that I had not paid for an item yet..etc. They even have valid item numbers of things for sale at that time on ebay. I forward them all to ebay spoof and they respond fairly quickly.Hope this info helps! :)

I know, I know! Dumb. It just took me by surprise.

Thanks, now I know what to do if it happens again!
