We have free dining for two adults and our 10 year old DS on our upcoming trip.

But DS isn't likely to order off Yachtsman's full menu, so could we pay OOP if he orders off the child's menu and only use 4 TS credits for our two meals?

If so, that would really stretch the TS credits for us.

Awesome, thanks. With two ADR's at Yachtsman's, that will save us 4 TS credits.

This is exactly why we paid the small difference to book our 9 year old DD as an adult. We will pay her meals OOP and use the 8 additional TS credits to go to more TS restaurants.

Note that "small difference" only applies to the "free dining" promotion period where you only have to pay the difference for park tickets; about $20/trip. Otherwise, the difference is over $40/day per child.

I should have been more clear, if doing so during a "free dining" promotion it saves you a ton of credits. Paying for the plan out of your pocket, this strategy doesn't make much sense.

Both me and my dd 11 love the porterhouse at the yatchsman, neither on of us can finish it. So we split it and only use 4 credits total instead of 6 credits.

Funny you mention that, we had two ADR's for Yachtsman and that is where he would be ordering off the kid's menu and we'd pay out of pocket for him, saving 4 credits total.

But as it turns out, the porterhouse (my favorite as well) is no longer on the menu as a single item - it's now for TWO people even though it's only 4oz bigger and counts as 4 credits when ordered.

So I cancelled both reservations.

Why both? I get that it's not as good a value as before, but that's still two pounds of steak for the (first) four credits you were going to use.
