I just returned a car in Denver, and thought of this thread. I noticed that I was charged about $96 more than quoted/signed. I thought maybe it was a deposit or something and would fall off. Once it went through, I began looking into it. I was charged around $10/gallon for about 10 gallons of gas.
Something told me to take a picture of the fuel gauge when we dropped it off. I had the car off and got out of the car, but got in and turned it back on just to take the picture. I emailed the picture to show it was full, and they took the charge off. It was painless to get it taken care of. However I shouldn’t have had to do it, and luckily I snapped that picture.
I can’t help but to think how many people they do this to that don’t notice. I can maybe understand if they had to put a gallon in it, but to charge me for a little over 9 gallons of gas when the gauge was on F is such a crime. The major thing I don’t get is what is in it for the person who makes that charge? It’s not the person you rented from, so I doubt the cleaner of the car gets a cut of an upsell.
If this was a local place, I would be there in person complaining. I’m not one to do that usually but this annoyed me enough that I would.
