Okay, I hope there are a few past cruisers with teenage sons out there who can help my DW and I with a few unanswered questions. Our DS is 17 years old! Any suggestions as to what he should wear at dinner? This is a three night cruise and there are no formal dinners. Could he wear nice shorts and a polo shirt or should he wear slacks? Also, this being our second cruise, what should we be wearing at the welcome back cocktail party with the captain?
Sorry about asking such questions, (my DW should be typing this) but we want to finish up some last minute shopping this weekend.

Thanks for any and all help,

Coach

My DS has been discussing this issue with me as well. He insists that since shorts are acceptable to wear to school he should be able to wear them to dinner as well......not on formal nights or Lumiere's but the others.

I keep telling him that since he is being treated as an almost adult he should follow the dress recommendations....pants and a collared shirt.

At the moment we have not reached a decision. So although this isn't an answer at least know you aren't alone dad!

Slacks.

Although they have loosened their dress statement for kids under 13, DCL pretty firmly says that they expect kids over 13 to dress as they suggest the adults do, and that means no shorts or jeans in the dining room.

He could by with 1-2 pairs of khaki pants for the week and be fine. :)

The Castaway Club reception is TOTALLY casual, you can wear shorts there and be fine -- it's not dressy in the least.

Have fun! :)

You are the best - I can now show my DS this (I print the really important stuff):jester:
and just say the expert says...

Funny thing is, he is leaning towards a tux for formal and semi-formal so why the big stink on pants the other nights is beyond me.

Good luck with your DS coach!

Dear Michelle and Deb,

Thanks, big time, for the fast response.
