Passports

we are doing a cruise from Miami to Cozumel, we all have birth certificates and military Id’s. I know it’s best to have passports just in case but seeing as how we have no plans on any other international travel in the future I am wondering if we will be okay without passports. How many of you have traveled with just birth certs and Gov Id’s?

Just like insurance you don’t need them until you do.
If someone in your party gets sick and has to have a medical evacuation you would need to wait until you get a passport to be able to leave with them.
If you missed the ship and needed to catch up with it you would need a passport.
It just a good idea to have one.

I would get that Passport. It's good for 10 years and it's not worth the hassle in an emergency to figure out how to get one.

We have passports because we travel internationally a fair amount, so it makes sense for us. However, you technically don't need a passport for your cruise.

As noted, the minimum requirement for US citizens on a closed loop cruise (begins and ends in the same US port) is a birth certificate (not the pretty hospital-issued one), and (for those 16 and over) a government-issued photo ID. Currently. Of course, things can change (at the drop of a hat), so be aware that could change (not REAL likely, but possible).
