hi we renewed our kids passports when the new biometric passports came in, ours are the old ones we got ours in june o1 and they run out in june 2011, my dh is panicking because they are not the same as the kids,theirs have the chip in the back. but i say ours are still machine readable therefore will be accepted by the us. please put my mind at ease as he has now got me paniking

I'm in the same position as you - although the opposite way around. Our passports are the chip kind, whilst are kids ones aren;t.

I'm fairly sure you're (we're) alright as they have the machine readable bit along the bottom of the photo page!

Someone will come around in a minute who will know for certain!

We renewed DD & DS passports last year & they both have the chip in.

DH & I passports don't have the chip but like yours are machine readable. DH & I flew to USA twice last year & had no probs at all with our passports.

Mine was issued in 2000, I've been to America 5 times using it - so don't panic

I got mine in 1999, and it's perfectly acceptable - 5th time to Orlando on this passport (6th into the USA), although will have to get a new one next year. My mum has the new biometric on for this year's holiday!

i was in a panic about dhs as well but its fine his is from 99 and hes not long back from san fransico with work, if on the photo page it has a whole load of letters and numbers then thats the barcode that the machine reads, only my son has the new chiped passport

Just to reassure you further, you'll be fine I have a new one and my bf has an 'old' one (well, issued in 2000!) and we had no problems. I don't think the machine-readable rule affects many (if any) UK passport holders.
