We are going to BUF in 29 days for our flight to WDW. I have travelled with passports for about the past 10 years. Here is our problem this year. My DS2's passport will expire while we are in FLA. (His was only good for 3 years since he was so young when he got it) I really don't want to apply for a new one now, as it says it takes 4 weeks by mail and I am no where near a passport office to do it in person. I don't want to be stuck with no passport AND no BC for the little guy when it is time to leave.

Do you think it will raise any eyebrows or cause any trouble if me, DH and DS1 all have passports, but DS2 does not? Or, I can just show all 4 BC and leave the passports in my carry on if there is any further questions. What do you think?

If you are looking for reassurance, try emailing the passport office. They do respond as I emailed them last month.

Just show your birth cerificates and they won't even want to see the kids. We have passports for DH and I but never even took them out. They will ask for I.D. for both parents but that is it.

We went as recently as dec. for Disney and last weekend for a tournament in Michigan where not one person was required to show a passport.

aslong as you have photo I.D and a birth cert. your fine the passport thing doesn't go into effect till the end of this year for canadians going to the US even if 3 of you have one and the other only has birth cert. it will be fine:)

Take your passports - if you have to use them, you've got them, plus all your other " identifying identification" :)

The previous posters are correct .You'll be fine with the birth cert etc.
As far as passports are concerned, if you went by "the letter of the law" you are not supposed to travel on a passport that is within 6 months of expiring (stupid law because it means a 5 year passport is really only 4 - 1/2 years).

Thanks everyone. I guess I won't worry about it. Just take picture ID, BC's and passports and I should be fine. :cool1:

They do not even WANT to see kids passports/ID at the airport. And a BC is fine for the border crossing. They won't find it strange at all, since a lot of people don't have passports for their kids. I would take the passports for the 3 of you, and a BC for your youngest. I don't pull out the BC's unless I absolutely HAVE to because they are a royal pain to replace if you lose them.

Happy travels.

We recieved our passports in about 7 business days from the day we dropped everything off. Our oldest daughter who needed the long form BC took 4 days start to finish. They may question it if all of you have them but your 1 son but as mentioned I would call and ask to see if anything can be done.

The Passport Office has express and urgent options for next day service. I don't think it's cheap though. I looked it a while ago when DBF couldn't find his passport a couple of days before we were going to leave.

I went to the Passport office at Scarboro Town Centre today. It was not busy at all. They rejected Dean's photo, so I had to go to the Town Centre and have it retaken. Because the original had been signed by the guarantor all I needed to do was have them retaken. I should have them in 10 days as that is what is posted and they tell you there. It was quite a bit of money for 5 of us, but worth it to me!

It depends on the country you are visiting (It's not a Canadian requirement, but that of the other country). Some countries require a passport be valid for 6 months from date of entry, others have no such requirement. Here's a great link that talks to this http://www.pulse24.com/Business/Top_Story/20060202-003/page.asp
