Anyone recently submit p/w to obtain a passport? I am curious to find out what the average turn around time currently is. I am planning on mailing out the p/w and photos on Friday but cruise 9/17. Wondering if I will have the passports by then? They say 6 wks on their website; wondering what the "real" average is. Thanks for your feedback. ;)

Hi, if you check out the cruise meet for your date, you will see a couple of people just received them, and way before they thought...

HTH :goodvibes

Hi skycon,
We did ours through the local post office and had them in 3 weeks. You'd have to check with your post office to see which ones process passports. Hope this helps.

Oh my reading this let me realize I can always go ahead an order the kids passports then order DH's and mine after our September cruise.

I did my passport renewal by mail and it took 8 weeks - one week too long! So I just used my birth certificate, but pretty frustrating.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I am going to head there tomorrow. The picture should come out great bc we will be heading to the beach. Oh well. I don't plan on showing it that much anyway. Take care fellow disers.

We applied for our both our boys passports the first week of June and received them late last week...so it was about 7 weeks. They told us it was getting real busy because it was summer.

We are a family of five - four of us applied together at the post office on a Wed. and we received those four the next week on Thursday. My oldest son went on his own two days after us and his took almost three weeks. It's hard to say really.

To those of you who applied for new passports...did the Post Office keep your original birth certificate with your application and tell you that it would be mailed back to you?

People on another board had stated this and I'd never heard it before. I thought you just had to let them see the birth certificate. What do you all think?

Yes, our Post Office took the original Birth Cert with the seal and sent it with the other paperwork.

I did my submission on June 24th - a Friday and I have not yet seen anything. It has been 5 weeks. They told me not to expect it for 6 weeks.

We applied in person and was told the normal six to 8 weeks. I believe we had them in 4 weeks. We were totally surprised.

We applied for out passports through the post office and got them back in exactly 5 weeks and yes they mailed the orginal birth certificate in w/the passport application. They told me to make sure you have plenty of time b/c I believe you at least have to have your birth certificate to get on board the boat.

Okay now I am nervous. What a gamble to take sending it with the original b.c.. I have exactly 7 weeks until I leave. Maybe I will send them overnight and see when I get them back. UGH what to do???????

Yes - your original birth certificates have to be mailed off tot he passport office along with your application and photos by the post office. But you do get your original certificates mailed back to you along with your passport.

I had to renew my passport and got it in the mail appx. 4 weeks after mailing. My DH and kids had to get new passports and theirs took about 7 weeks.

If you don't have another copy of your birth certificate, I would seriously consider going the expedited route - I think you can get your passport in a week or so if you pay the expedited fee (I dont know how much it is, but you can go to the US Passport website and find out). Or just use your birth certificate and a drivers license. Passports aren't needed until 1/1/06.

Just another point on this.

They are to return the original Birth Cert to you with your passport.
