Party Throwing "Pros"...what am I missing?

Right, but presumably the point of the party is to be social, hang out, get to know each other, not just eat cheesecake. So serve something besides cheesecake/sweet things, to cater to guests who don't have much of a sweet tooth, are watching their weight, whatever.

Ummm, the point of the party is specifically to sample cheesecakes, right?

Sure Bob, and women play bunco for a thrilling game of skill and chance. :lmao: It has nothing to do with wanting to get together with friends without the rest of the family.

Look, the person is having a cheesecake party and getting flak for not serving something else.

As always on the Dis, someone will post that they are having a picnic and list 108 items they are having and someone else will, of course, post that they need to also have goat milk for the people that choose that as their drink of choice.

If I got invited to a cheesecake sampling party and for whatever reason I don't want to eat cheesecake, I'd either not go, or I'd go and not epect to be served apple pie, because apple pie is what I like.

I think you've definitely covered the cheesecake aspect! :lmao:

I too wondered about a fruit salad. You need something lighter. Even if people want to taste cheesecakes, people aren't going to sit around eating slice after slice, you know? They'll try a sliver of this, a half of a bite... I'd give them something to eat eat.

Hence, big fruit salad, or big platter or cut up fruit, so you don't have to go nuts. Just slice up a pineapple or two, cut a couple of melons (be sure to wash them well with soap and water before cutting! There's already been one cantelope outbreak iirc) into wedges and put them out...dump out few pints of washed blueberries with a spoon, maybe some cut apples and pears sprinkled with lemon water. It'll take like 20 minutes.

Also no wine seems odd but you know your circle for that. I like the spiked coffee bar idea.

We did a dessert party for our daughter's Bat Mitzvah. The one thing we had was a cheesecake bar. It included plain cheesecake with assorted toppings. Other things we had were fruit pizzas, fresh fruit with chocolate to dip it in, lemon cake bites, brownie bites and a few other things I can't remember. We also had a coffee and smoothie bar which was a hit.

Since we had an afternoon party, we didn't have alcohol. However, for an evening party, you should definitely have at least wine.

I love the idea of to go containers.

Hmm, I thought the OP asked for advice about her menu. I like cheesecake, but not enough to eat more than a few bites, as it is very heavy and rich. I think many posters here gave her good advice, especially if she wants the party to last more than 15 minutes.

I've been to wine and cheese parties (2 items, not just 1), and guess what - there are other items served besides just wine and cheese!

Oh for Pete's sake, no one gave her "flack." She asked for advice on her menu and she got advice.

By the way, for those who mentioned fruit, she has fruit on the original menu (which was, indeed, a great idea).

To the OP: so how did it go? :flower3:

Oh, oops, thought it was upcoming.

I saw the fruit, but it was a berry mix for the angel food cake. I'd still make up a big platter, with the 'people need something to eat eat' theory, heh.
