Party of 5's First family trip to WDW! Just back from POR 6/16 *update 8/13 thoughts

Loved your trippie - you may not have gone "commando" this time, but you certainly accomplished quite a bit - sounded like you found the right balance for your family!

Your kiddos are cute ! Relatively speaking, you definitely experienced a minimum of "meltdowns" - I'm impressed !

The sad thing is that ending a TR is almost like the last day all over again...:sad2: Glad you shared your trip with us, and I hope you are able to go back again soon. After our trip ends in September, I'll be in the same boat. It will probably be at least 2 years before we go again.

Looking forward to your follow up.

So sad to see your report end. Hopefully you will be back soon if you search hard enough you probably could find an amazing deal. I hear stories all the time. Looking forward to hearing you end remarks.

Jeanine

Thanks again, for following along!

I think we did find the right balance too, some days were more commando than others but it worked for us.. I was very surprised we did have minimum meltdowns, overall they got along better there than at home! I guess our "talk" before hand and what was expected helped!

Thanks, I probably won't get a chance until next week to do my ending.
I know it does feel like the last day all over again, can't wait to follow yours!

So sad to read your last post I was feeling sorry for you all having to go home I've enjoyed reading you posts and have made loads of notes for my trip next year have even got DH on here reading posts and considering ADR's

Thanks for a lovely TR, you're so kind giving away your FP's, we did that last year and had the same reaction you did, it took a lot to give them away :rotfl:

The last photo is lovely :goodvibes

Oh my :sad1: I hate departure day too. The drive away from WDW is not fun either. I usually fell like crying right along with the kids. I guess it's the back to reality part. Hopefully you will be able to find a way to get soon. I loved reading your trip report!! That picture of you and the kids on the bench is cute.

Another departure day hater, I cry every time....:sad1: Great TR, thanks for taking the time to share your wonderful family with us!:goodvibes

Thanks soo much for the pm info Jen, VERY helpful if we ever go that route. The kids love their new school ( we got rezoned this year, it's new to them, but not a new school )

Hopefully tomorrow I'll get my final thoughts etc up...

Final thoughts :

This vacation was a dream come true for me.:cloud9: I had always looked forward to the day when I could come with all my children and just see the pure excitement and happiness in their eyes.. There is nothing else like walking down main street and seeing that castle!:lovestruc It truly is the “Happiest place on earth”!

I am soo envious of all of you that get to come back year after year or even more than once a year. I will faithfully read all of your TR’s and re live the magic through all of you I am sure.:worship:

Unfortunately for us, I don’t think we will be back until 2010, 2 years..:sad1: DH doesn’t really know this yet, but that is my plan. As far as DH goes he wasn’t to into planning and said he wasn’t in to Disney etc, but he LOVED every second of the trip and could totally understand why they charge the prices they do, and actually thought every penny was worth it!

He said he does want to go back, but wouldn’t want to go every year, and although he doesn’t think he will ever “get into the whole planning thing” he appreciated all my efforts, and could see how they all paid out, and how you do really need to plan.:goodvibes

He thought is was so funny all the “Disers” I “knew” and ran into on this trip.. It really is a small world after all….

So here are my final thoughts on things and our favorite run down::teacher:

It is worth every penny, and I couldn’t imagine staying off site if it could be avoided.

If you go during summer months, and afternoon break is a definite must especially if the parks are open until 11 pm or later..

In a perfect trip, you really need at least 2 park mornings (rope drops) for each park.

I can’t STRESS enough how important Rope Drops are, you can get soo much done in those first 2 hours!

I would definitely subscribe to Tour Guide Mike again, although his website is hard to go through , he is right on with his advice and examples…

I think you must experience at least one character meal each trip!

Use Fast Passes when ever available and “learn the system”

If you have young girls (4 and older IMHO) a trip to BBB is a must at least once!

Make a must do list before each trip and concentrate on what you want to do and see.

Use Index cards for the above, and also write down adrs etc..

Don’t be afraid to ask CM’s questions or favors…

Make sure to see at least one night time entertainment ex: wishes, fantastic etc..

Try and figure out alternate routes with the buses if need be ex: take a bus to EMH park and transfer to your hotel bus there if the line is to long at one park..(only really works on EMH nights )

Try and make at least one ADR breakfast before the park opens to get in early, nothing like walking down main street with no one in your way…

Next time I promise :

To take notes nightly, (you really can’t remember everything once you get back home)

Take more pictures
Spend more time at Epcot and the World showcase
Take the time to REALLY do a must do list!
Feed my kids better!!! Ha-ha…

There isn’t a whole lot I would do differently other than what I mentioned above, the advice I got and researched was right on. Definitely get to Rope Drops and have a plan are key!!!

There is something magical that happens there that is for sure!:cloud9:

Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to read and post! I had a lot of fun doing this, and hope you all enjoyed reading along.

I know that I found so much info here on the Dis and in people's TRs. I hope that along the way I was able to help out and give some tips too.

I feel like I have made some life long “diser friends” along the way, Thanks again :grouphug:

I :lovestruc your TR so much:)

It gave me so much joy to see your beautful family enjoy WDW.

I loved your final thoughts and will take them to heart.

We look forward to your next TR ~ the truth is that 2010 will be here before we know it:)

Awwww, what a great trippie! I loved it and getting to know you and your family! 2010 is really only 18m away you know, it will be here before you know it! Better start looking at those menus now!

Allyson :)

Annette,

I really enjoyed your TR and got a lot of great tips from you! Thanks so much for sharing it with us!

Tammy

Thanks for a lovely report and your final thoughts, seeing your kids thoughts has reminded me that my DD wants to write her own TR for our next trip, wonder if she will, we leave tomorrow for 14 days and both the girls have been sent to bed ridiculously excited :rotfl:

Thanks again :goodvibes

AWWW ANNETTE!!!! You made me all emotional!!! I loved your closing comments!!! I do hope you guys get there again soon--and hopefully, 2010 will come quickly!!! ;o) I loved reading along and meeting you in person!! I so wish we had more time to talk, but it was a joy to at least meet you even if just for a short moment. Lifelong "disfriends" indeed!!! We MUST keep in touch and updated on everything going on!!! Hope to talk soon, Jen

We must have been thinking it was time to wrap it up.... the same time almost. I agree with so much of what you said: Rope drop, Tour Guide Mike, character meals and staying on site. I will miss your report and family too- it was fun to read your interview!

Loved every minute of your TR! It sounds like your DH is my hubby's twin on the Disney philosophy! Does not understand why I enjoy the planning so much, but once we were there a few days he stopped and thanked me for it. He was effected by the pixie dust while we were there and loved every minute. But here is my advice- try to set a return date (approx) now. The pixie dust seemed to fade as we got further from our trip (5/07). It took some convincing to get him to commit for our 5/09 trip!

Two years feels like forever- but it is not too bad. We have had some fun road trips in the interim- Pennsylvania, Washington DC and New Hampshire- all fun but admittedly no WDW!

Good luck planning your next trip- have you thought about renting points from a DVC owner and maybe getting a one bedroom?

What wonderful thoughts! I've really enjoyed your trip report! Here is wishing you pixie dust for a return trip soon!!:wizard:
