Just need to share with someone that my surprise cruise has now lost a passenger.

I was planning a cruise next August on the Fantasy for my Husband, Son and Step Son. We had reserved time with my stepson for a vacation but hadn't told anyone where I had planned.

Today I found out that his mum got a Christmas gift that was a surprise family trip to Disneyland Paris from her partner with overlapping dates. I am really gutted that he can't come with us now but can't let on my disappointment without giving away the surprise. :(

Seems odd that, if you gave them a specific time frame you set up to have him, and now there's a conflict, they didn't work it out with you.

It is always sad when plans change like this. And something to keep in mind on to avoid these things in the future.

But don't you think, now is the time to tell your son? While his stepbrother is going to Disney, he is going to Disney as well. Only on a ship. I know I would be jealous if a sibling had something awesome to look forward to and I had nothing.

That was my thought too. If the time was already "booked" with him, why is the mother encroaching on that? Unless it was technically her time and she'd verbally said that this trip could cut into it. Then it's stickier.

Unfortunately not. We made arrangements with his mother who didn't tell the step father and he was the one who booked their surprise trip to DLP.

It would seem to me that the mother would have more say in that than the stepfather. Sorry, didn't mean to derail the thread. I'm sorry your plans didn't work out.

Is it possible for you to move the cruise up a week or two? Or do it when he gets back?

Yes, you are right. My son will be super excited when I tell them now he knows his brother is also going away. Didn't think of it from that view. Thanks

We are restricted by school holidays this year unfortunately so nothing we can move it to that they can both do.

As we fly in from the UK we would need a couple of extra days too. Can't just drive down and jump on a ship to the Caribbean. I wish I could though.

Have you maybe thought about a Med cruise? That might be more convenient.

Yes we thought about it but the price vs convenience just doesn't add up unfortunately. The Med is so much more expensive than the Caribbean cruise.

I had the same, the European cruises are so expensive! It is cheaper to fly to Miami from Europa, 2 days in Miami, take a 4-night cruise, than to take a Med cruise.

I'm sorry it is not working out. Both of our grandsons are in blended families so there's not even the chance of a surprise (or spur of the moment) trip. Too many schedules to coordinate and people to let in on the not-so-secret. Still, y'all will have a great time.

I’m sorry to hear this. Would it be possible for you to move the date by a month or a few weeks to accommodate the step son? Next August is far enough out where there shouldn’t be any penalties.

I did look but we are restricted by school holidays too this year. We will have to go again another time. Good excuse to do it all again anyway.
