Party of 2 or 3?

My coworker suggested asking for a party of 2 since DS will be in a highchair. Would there be a problem when we check in if we tell them we'll need a high chair for our son when the ADR is only for 2?

You need to include your child when you book your ADRs. Disney counts everyone, including small children. You may run into problems if you book a reservation for 2, as many tables will only hold 2, and won't even have a place to add a highchair.

It is the total number of people that will be seated at the table. This means three! They cannot, for safety reasons, put a high chair in an aisle and if they tried to put it between tables it might not fit and would be interfering with the people at the next table.

So for three people, you must ask for a table for three.

And the good news is there are many more tables for 3 then there are for 2 so it's more likely you can get a reservation.

Also of note, historically, some places have had "issues" finding ADR slots of odd numbers of people. If you can't find one for 3, try 4 (entering an infant if it's pre-paid). They will typically have no trouble seating 3 instead of 4, especially since many CMs are aware of this.

ETA:
"Historically" since they did just make some updates to the system the other night. No idea if this issue was addressed though.
