Party games? Anyone have ideas?

Looking for some party games that do not cost very much money for my 9yr old daughters birthday? Anyone have ideas that want to share?

We had a Minute to win it party for my DD's 10th.
Lots of ideas if you google it. The girls had so much fun and you can get most supplies at the dollar store if you don't already have them around the house.

For an outdoor party, have water balloons, or squirt guns (they can be the party favor)
Musical Chairs, Freeze Dance, Volleyball, Frisbee, Badminton, Holey Board, Bean Bag Toss (you can make/buy small prizes)

Kids that age love balloon games. Some ideas:

Balloon tag: You need a balloon and a yard of yarn for each player. Inflate the balloon. Tie one end of the yarn to it...the other end around the player's ankle. At the signal, the kids run and try to pop each other's balloons without allowing their own balloon to be popped.

Balloon races: Divide the guests into teams of 3 or 4. For each team, put a kitchen chair at one end of the lawn. In relay-style the kids have to run to the chair, sit on their balloon to pop it, then run back to tag the next runner.

Chin races: Pairs have to hold the balloon between their necks. They then have to run a simple obstacle course to the other end of the yard and back without dropping the balloon.

Knee races: The guests have to hold their balloon between their knees. At the signal they have to run to a designated spot and back without letting the balloon slip out from between their knees.


If they're "girlie-girls", another idea is decorated pillowcases. Have iron-on paper handy. Either take a picture of the group and print out a photo for each girl or take a picture of each girl, print it out, then let the girls pick their favorite heartthrobs, find photos of the guys on the internet, and print them, too. Iron the photos on. Provide fabric markers so the girls can decorate around the photos...add frames, doodles, words, etc. Have all the girls sign the back of each pillowcase. Set the marker in your drier, then send the pillowcases home in place of goodie bags.

If you have plenty of yard space, get one of those volleyball/badmitten sets (I think they are around $15.00?)...

Kids that age love that stuff, plus you get to keep it for your family to enjoy afterwards!

Great thread, I am also planning games for my 9 year old DD birthday in a few weeks Some fun ones:

Spoon egg races: See who can carry their egg on a spoon fastest from Point A to Point B without it falling

Donut on a string: Tie some donuts with a string through the whole to a tree branch. Without useing your hands see who can "eat" the donut to make the donut fall off hte string first.

We are also tie-dying t-shirts and having a pinata. Potato sack and three leg races are also really fun.

A few games my daughter has enjoyed:

- tin foil clothing: divide into groups of 3 or 4. Give each group 1 roll of dollar store tin foil. Their goal is to make as many articles of clothing as possible out of that roll of tin foil (one person models the "clothes"). Each time we've played this the girls spent an HOUR making clothes! Best game EVER for the $4 I spent!

- mummy game: how fast can you wrap someone in toilet paper (again, at 4 rolls/$1 from the dollar store)

- Beach ball toss: Get a beach ball or other light-colored ball, and write fun questions on it (what's your favorite movie, favorite ice cream flavor, best family vacation memory, who was your kindergarten teacher, etc.) The kids toss the ball back and forth and have to answer the question that most nearly faces them when they catch the ball. It's a good way to get them talking -- and about positive things.

If it's outside......

Sponge Tag - Fill up a baby pool with water and throw a sponge in there. Have one girl be "it". The goal is to throw the wet sponge at people and try to hit them (and get them wet). Once the girls are hit, they should sit out until one person is left and that person is "it".

Again, using a baby pool. Have girls sit on the outside of the pool and just put their feet in the water. Put a bowl next to each girl. Throw a bunch of ice cubes in the water. The goal is to see how many ice cubes the girls can get out of the water using only their feet before all the ice cubes melt! The girls should put the ice cubes in their bowl as they get them out.

Rainbow Race: Hide different colored markers all over your yard. Print out some blank, black and white, rainbows from your computer and hand one to each girl. At your command, have the girls race around the yard and try to find the markers to color in their rainbow. The girl who finishes first wins! Must be in the correct order though - ROYGBIV!

We are having a Birthday Party next week for my DD and her best friend (who lives 2 doors down). They both go to the same private school so we are inviting all the girls (14 total). We sat down with them to decide what kind of party they wanted. We had lots of ideas:

Spa Party, American Idol Party with Karaoke, Luau Party, Movie Party etc. They decided on the Minute to Win it Party (with a summer/beach theme).

I went to the Minute to Win it site as I don't know much about this and printed off about 12 games we can play. The girls will be divided up into 2 or 3 teams depending on how many girls attend. They will then earn points for winning. We are going to turn the points into Monopoly Money and then we are either going to put a bunch of gift bags together and auction them off with their money or set up a store where they can buy items with their money. (Read about that on some website).

Also, just picked up beach balls and bubbles for all of them and we will play some summer fun music.

For food we are going to do a Taco Bar with chicken and beef tacos/nachos and got colorful Margarita type glasses with fancy straws and going to do smoothies or something like that. Girls are excited - should be fun.

Another fun game is wrapped candy bar.

You need an adult hat, scarf, aa adult pair of gloves, a pair of dice, and a table knife and fork. You also need one large candy bar and wrap it in newspaper like 20 times and than wrap it in left over wrapping paper like 10 times(or how ever many times you want, you just want to cover it alot of times).

Start with the birthday kid have them put the hat, scarf, and gloves on. They have to use the knife and fork to unwrap the candy bar. The next child rolls the dice, until they roll a number that you have picked. Once that number is rolled, the dice is passed along with the candy bar, knife, fork, hat, scarf, and gloves. The second child has to put on the hat, scarf, and gloves BEFORE they can pick up the knife and fork and try to unwrap it. And you repeat it until it is all done.

We stopped once the candy bar was unwrapped(we had 3 yr olds). I gave each one a candy bar as a favor. But you can continue until the candy bar is eaten or stop once the bar is unwrapped and use it as a favor.

mombrontrent: DO NOT use powdered donuts!! You end up inhaling the sugar! We always said that each person had to eat the entire donut without dropping any and used the mini donuts by entenman's.
