We are having a halloween party on Friday 28th.

Has anyone got ideas for party food, some of the guests are vegeterians.

Starting to get bored with the norm, sarnies, peanuts and crisps.

Probably end up doing sarnies etc.

DD is getting excited she loves parties, and wants to start now!!!!!!!!!!

When we have friends over we do the usual sarnies, mini sausages, sausage rolls etc. but we also go to the Curry Pot at Asda and pick up loads of Indian/Chinese bits and bobs like onion bhajis, meat and veg samosas, kebabs, prawn crackers and pappadoms. Asda also do lovely curries (if you wanted baked potato fillings) and bombay potatoes.

Hope that helps

Perhaps Bagels for the sandwiches instead of regular bread?

There are some lovely Halloween cakes at the moment. I saw a fab one in Asda the other day of a ghost.

Large pizzas cut into shapes are usually quite popular. As Mandy mentioned Asda do lots of curries/pakora etc. How about Garlic Bread with cheese too.

In the past when I have done buffets at home I have done various foods, vol au vants are still quite popular. For the vegetarians perhaps some veggie quiche, veggie spring rolls and veggie sausage rolls??

This was more of a sit down buffet :)

My very favourite party food (sorry, it's a kiddy thing but I just had to say) is flumps - marshmallows with a dollop of melted chocolate and a smartie stuck on the top. Yum, yum.

Other than that, I don't think you can go wrong with the usual - sausage rolls, vol au vents etc.

Another idea, though, is to do some jacket potatoes in the oven and serve them up with loads of different toppings - beans, cheese, coleslaw, tuna mayo etc. Also, what about hot dogs, burgers etc?

At our annual christmas drinks "do" I always try to steer clear of the usual vol au vents, sausage rolls etc which are rather stodgy and tend to get soggy anyway- try cream cheese stuffed dates(these are delicious), toasted thin slices of french stick spread with a nice olive tapanade, popadom crisps filled with cream cheese mixed with mango chutney, spicey tomato bruchetta, tiny humous filled pittas, tiny new potatos tossed in garlic butter and served on skewers, stuffed cherry tomatoes - there are loads of veggie options. They take a bit of time in preparing but always go down well with carnivores as well and you can always add a bit of meat/fish to some of them for the non veggies among your guests. I also sometimes make mini pizzas from savoury muffins.

Be brave and you'll be delighted with the results and so will your guests.
Good luck!

Yum!
Next time you have a buffet can I come pls? :rotfl:

How about offering a fondue? I guess it depends how many people you have invited, but when we have a small(ish) garden party or such, I get a selection of fondue cheeses and some bread for a fundue. I did a melted chocolate with marshallows for the children as well. We had a party at the end of September and I bought some prepared sushi and that had a great response. A really nice salad with lots of dressings is nice as well. Nice warm bread and olive oil for dipping is great too.

Pumpkin soup? That has a real Halloween theme!

PS - if you have a Waitrose nearby, then I highly recommend their "Waitrose Entertaining" service. They have a wonderful selection of light snacks, cakes and other party foods which can be delivered. Saves on the preparation time!

Princess Jackson - I sympathise with deciding what to do!

We had such a successful halloween/bonfire night party last year, we're doing it all again this year :cool1:

I think you need to consider several things:

- how many people are you having
- what ages
- inside or outside

We had over 115 people to ours :earseek: last year. But it was fun! And it's pretty much the same number on 5th November this year. Just pray for dry weather for us :rolleyes1

Last year I just did loads of finger food for the adults (sausage rolls, prawn bites, mini pizzas, indian and chinese snack food, king prawns with a dip etc etc). For the kids I did hot sausages in rolls, chicken breast bites and lots of different cakes. Sainsbury's did a tray bake halloween cake which was superb, hope they've got em again this year!

This year, I shall be doing sausages again for kids - and adults, together with huge bowls of chilli and either rice or potato wedges. Just got to figure out the quantities of minced steak, beans, onions etc for the chilli!!

Some of my girly friends brought along deserts, so we had loads of different ones to choose from; some were even done with a halloween theme which were great.

A lot of ours depends on the weather with so many people - luckily we have a large garden in which we put a couple of gazebos, or larger marquee type thingy - DD Katie and her friends took this over last year for the 'disco'. I had all sorts of halloween games around - a ghoulish treasure hunt in the garden; apple bobbing, punch balls in the shape of ghosts. And the children enjoyed themselves too ;). If it's :umbrella: raining this year, we'll just have to get cosy indoors, spread people around various downstairs rooms.

Hope you enjoy your party :wizard:

:) Yep, must be mad. I'm not worrying about it yet, but I'll be hyper the night before and during the day of the party :goodvibes :goodvibes It's all good fun though :wizard:
